Can't believe e Wii is in 2 d, thought everyone hated it.
It really was the Melee of the series though.

Mario Kart Wii was GOOD. Not as good as DS but... I think I put it third.
People are blinded by nostalgia when it comes to the earlier ones, the Snes one does not compare to later games, and in double dash the karts handle like bricks.

I don't know, I didn't find anything about MKWii to be particularly good. I would still place it above Super Circuit and Super Mario Kart, though.

First Mario Kart with AI in 3/4 player splitscreen, first home console one with 32 tracks, Vehicles handled well, Splitscreen Online, Great Soundtrack!
It was insanely unbalanced, and you could zoom from last to 1st on certain tracks all the time at the last corner with a golden mushroom. But it was the first Mario Kart with really good local multiplayer for 3+ players.
I find hard to believe how MK Wii is 2nd and a masterpiece like Double Dash is 5th.

Evolution I guess. For as far as I know Mario Kart 8 combined the best of all the series (except for a decent battle mode). The Wii version wasn't all that to begin with for as far as I remember. It added things like tricks and bikes which still remain in the series I guess. It also helps it had the biggest userbase and it being a recent Mario Kart.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
I'm surprised Mario Kart Wii is getting a lot of flack. I really enjoyed the Wii version and played it everyday online with a friend for a good while. Every now and then, there was a cheap hacker, but it was really fun over all. Also, bikes were a cool new addition.

Don't forget the biggest advantage online play brings, being that all racers are human players which makes the game way more interesting.
MKWii is uber unbalanced no doubt, but I don't think a lot of people realize that MK8 is just as unbalanced. Think about it, lightweights are garbage in both, each game has one of it's vehichle types being significantly superior to the other (Bikes in Wii, Karts in 8), and both of their item systems have major faults. In terms of balance, MK7 is king!
Bugger da haterz, MKWii is awesome. :)
Yeah, it's not the most balanced game in the world, but when I'm playing 4 player splitscreen with my mates and some beers, laughing and swearing as we screw each other over, it's some of the most fun I've ever had with a video game.
Well deserved win for MK8 too; it looks great, it plays great, and honestly battle mode was only ever a throwaway sideshow in my opinion, so it's omission is no significant loss.
