MS is cozying up to Nintendo trying to score a content deal. Watch and see. Spencer would probably run around Nintendo's HQ nude to make it happen.

Until their "cosying up" becomes anything more than "yeah I'd love to see Nintendo games on our consoles", it's nothing. Phil Spencer saying nice things about the competetion doesn't mean Microsoft are "cosying up" with Nintendo in hopes of trying to get their content on their platform (which would be weird, because MS have started publishing their content outside of their platform). Just like Shuhei Yoshida saying nice things about the Switch as you can see in this thread doesn't mean Sony is trying to cozy up with Nintendo to get their content on their platform. Even though they obviously would love to, because who wouldn't love to get more quality games on their own platform. If Nintendo for some reason actually were to decide to stop making their own hardware, they would either a) go mobile only or b) become a third party multi-plat publisher.

Nintendo congratulated MS on the XBox anniversary though, that raised my eye brow because Nintendo *never* does anything like that. I think something is up with these two.

Could be a Mario x Minecraft cross over but I do think something is up. Who says Nintendo would be one giving up more content by the way? They could very well end up in a deal where they get more/better content from MS for their Switch platform while only having to give up say some Virtual Console stuff and maybe a Metroid.

Who knows. Everyone just assumes Nintendo cooperating with MS in some way means some kind of automatic "ERHmagawd Nintendy is teh thurd partyz, Mario 128 comingz for XBoxers", when it may be more like Halo and Minecraft x Mario for Switch for some token XBox support for MS so MS can crow about it.

I would love that: Nintendo games on PC.

This is what I hate about Spencer. He has an alternative motive to everything he says.

How do you know this?

SWORDF1SH said:

He sucks Nintendo dick and then a week later goes on about how much he would love Mario on Xbox. Probably thinks it's possible too. Spencer is  just slimey. As annoying Greenberg can be, at least he's transparent.

Fucking asshole. Saying nice things about the competition.

Fuck you Spencer! Don't say nice things about Uncharted 4 you piece of shit!

The nice things Phil says just feel like they have no depth or substance, if u get what I mean. "competition X is awesome, becuz they be awesome", not the why or how or his own experience etc. A cookie cutter praise.

SWORDF1SH said:
You get the feeling that he's genuine when he says something nice unlike Spencer.

Tell me you're joking right?????.............

But at that point, what's in it for either of them? I could see MS eventually going third party (now for the love of god, people, don't make a fucking big deal out of me saying that) because they might find that just publishing their own software and trying to set up their own storefront with W10 will have higher margins than keeping on pushing their own hardware, but if they are in that situation, it makes no sense for them to skip out on loads of extra sales for Halo and Gears et. al. on the PSWhateveritiscalledbythen, and sure, if Nintendo's console is appealing at that point in time as well, then yeah, they'll get support too. But Nintendo releasing a few games on the Xbox in exchange for a few games from MS on their system? Could create a very tough PR situation because people might expect to get more Nintendo games on non-Nintendo system, wether that's realistic or not, and at the same time, Microsoft wouldn't have much to gain from that either, so it would be a waste of the likely enormous wads of cash they'd have to chuck at Nintendo to convince them. Wads of cash that could probably be used to purchase 10 times more third party exclusives than what they'd get from Ninty. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

And that's not really saying something nice about Uncharted, the 'i'm sure' part makes itsounds like he's reluctantly agreeing with somebody. And it would be nice to add a little context to that tweet by showing what he replied to.

Believe it or not I liked Spencer when he first became boss at Xbox. But over the years I came to believe he's a bit slimey and two faced.

So you'll just have to accept what I believe and a few others in this thread believe.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you when you say you "liked Spencer when he first became boss at Xbox".

I only wish you'd extend the same courtesy to Phil when he compliments the competition.

SWORDF1SH said:

It's called an opinion. Get over it! Why are you getting so offended?

Offended? I'm amused, actually.

Ok, where do I begin?

Spencer announced over a year ago how much he hates 3rd party exclusive deals and how he will do away with them, even going as far as saying it could be his "failing". What he really meant was that "Sony has a huge market share compared to us, we can't afford to make 3rd party deals anymore". Anyway, over the following year he must of convinced MS to fund these deals as we have seen 3rd party deals from Madden, Fifa, Battlefield and full exclusive in the shape of Dead Rising 4. So does he hate 3rd party exclusives, or was he trying to make himself look good by being the guy above all these dirty 3rd party exclusives because he assumed it would be hard to get funding for exclusive content when the competition is stomping all over you.

He also downplayed VR, even saying it's "not a thing". What he meant to say is "we have nothing close to market in the VR space so we must downplay it". What followed was a Hololens demos and partnerships with Oculus and their own cheap alternative for Windows. He wants to downplay VR because of PSVR but then happily announces VR partnerships and show off Hololens.

Then we have his bullshit about not being "a fan" of console wars but does everything he can to fuel it. After MS pushed the "no games on PS4" narrative last year, he tried his hardest to push the same narrative this year. He constantly tries to compare the XB1 in a better light than the PS4. For somebody that isn't "a fan" he does like to bring the wood for the console war fire, the gaming sites build the fire while the fanboys light it and bask if the fiery fanboy warmth.
"“When I watch the other platforms, it’s not always clear to me when the games are shipping or how many of them are shipping this year. I mean these are a pretty diverse set of games from a great set of developers. And to say that the other consoles are doing a better job shipping more games for their customer… I don’t see that.”

And this is from the guy who says he doesn't like to talk about the competition.

And this is just picking a few things from some articles and there's plenty more.

Are you still offen... I mean ammused?

I think I'm entitled to my opinion. If there's people that want to sit on Phil's dick then that's up to them.

Obviously not. Shu has that kind personality that makes him feel genuine while Spencer feels like a robot.

Yoshi so nice like always. Switch and PS4 sounds like a good combo for console gamers. Mine is Switch, PS4, 3DS and PC because I'm greedy.

This. there is no other platform that offers the experiences that Nintendo does with games like Mario Kart, Mario, Star Fox and Zelda.

If the compliments were nicer or more elaborate, would they then be more convincing?

Wherein the link you provided does it say that Phil Spencer "hates 3rd party exclusive deals and" and that "he will do away with them"?

Phil Spencer had more to say than just VR being "not a thing".

I don't see why anyone would assume that any of these guys are BSing when they say nice stuff about other companies in the industry. Many of them are gamers. Just like many of us, they play games on multiple platforms. There's no reason to think that they suddenly change when they go to work for one of these companies.

You don't see ANY reason?  They are ONLY gamers, or that over-rides any other interests they have?
Forced Kinect was "gamer"?   Always Online was "gamer"?  Power of The Cloud BS was "gamer"?
I'm not saying you can't choose to believe them in this case, but there is a history of BS and deception.
This isn't unique to MS.  Look at Hello Games.  Or a multitude of other cases in industry.  Just being real here.

I didn't say they never lie, mislead, or otherwise spread BS.  I said that I see no reason to *assume* that they would be BSing when they *say nice things about the competition*.

They certainly could be BSing at any time.  But, while most people will stretch the truth, or outright lie to further the interests of their company, I don't think that usually extends to furthering the interests of other companies.

These guys are humans, and they are gamers.  They probably tell the truth most of the time, as most of us do.
