Full faced veils are banned in numerous country.
In belgium you can't completely hide your face in public. This is not applied most of the time though.

I agree to the ban for safety issues. If you're seeking asylum in another country, you're seeking safety. It's not fair to those around you who are already residents of that country to not know who you are which could be an issue of safety. Take it off, and be "free" of everyone's sake.

Merkel does not pander for votes. She fully well knew that letting in the refugees would be an unpopular move, but chose to so so nometheless, because she thought it to be the right thing, if you agree with it or not. Don't blame her for attempting to balance the will of the people she is supposed to represent with what she personnaly thinks should be done.
