Damn. After hearing everybody gush about this game, and realizing that FFXV will have a lot of game-improving updates down the line, I'm starting to regret not picking this up as my Holiday purchase

Tbh, I think that the game will polarized a lot gaming community. Its technical flaws are hard to overlook. And it's frustrating at times. But in the end I was deeply moved by the history, and I truly care about characters. Something I haven't felt since... To The Moon probably. And, well, that compensates the flaws for me. But I'm sure that it won't do for some people.

That's how Team ICO's previous two offerings were. The camera and controls of both ICO and SoTC were pretty stinky, although players and critics were more forgiving back then - probably because there were many other mechanically unpolished games, and because ICO and SoTC could stand out as unique for other reasons. I think the following is what will set TLG apart from its predecessors:

- Its lengthy history of developmental turmoil (this in itself is a highly polarizing factor)

- Its release into a much more modern gaming world (it will be streamed by gaming personalities, it is under a more focused technical lens etc). I know that Team ICO games are considered cult-classics, but popular YouTubers like Pewdiepie will open TLG up to a wider pool; a pool which I think will be less forgiving of its faults than a series fan will be

- If the camera and controls are problems, the fact that it has been 15 years since ICO's release and the team still can't fix those issues

- The fact that it has to live up to the legacy of its predecessors

I'm confident I'll enjoy the game based on art style and musical composition alone! I only wish the development period hadn't suffered so much. Just looking at the Metacritic userscores the game is very polarizing already.

Yeah, user scores are way over the top, as expected XD. Art style and musical composition are top notch, you won't have any problems with it. And I totally agree with the factors you stated. I think it's a shame that team ICO haven't solved those issues, we'll probably be talking about a critically acclaimed game in here. 2016 is less forgiving about those issues, and I really think it's truly understandable. So I don't skake my head in desbelief when I see low scores, because I think there are legit reasons.

I still hold it as my personal GOTY, because it made me feel, and I think that was, first and foremost, the main intention. And, man, they truly deliver in that sense.

Oh dear God, I'm leaning towards Sterling ...

I've never ever been so irritated by a game in all my gaming years. So far, I HATE it, and that's no exaggeration. Don't ask me to explain, I'm too pissed off at spending £50 at the moment.

The PS5 Exists.

What.

The.

Fuck.

I haven't played it yet so I can't really give an educated opinion but hearing this from you. In a way, I'm saddened because i want this game to be good when I buy it. At the same time, I respect how honest you are with your opinion.

I may have misjudged you, Gribble.

It keeps getting better for me. I'm wondering what you hate about it, and what you were expecting instead?

Last night was another 3 hour epic play session for me. Although I wanted to pace myself with this game, I couldn't stop playing.
It even slows down on a pro though in 1080p mode. The scale of the level design is insane.

goty definitely.

Don't do that. You won't be able to play it a third time XD.
