Its a known fact,  when you ask something first franchise that springs to mind when you say jrpg it'll always be FF. Almost Every jrpg has aspired to be like Final Fantasy,  its one of the longest running jrpg franchises of all time surviving when 80% of all other jrpg franchises died after the PS2.  We are nearly up two 30 years which is a feat not many franchises have lived to see, that's almost 10 years on Pokemon.  While Pokemon is still fo the same thing its done for 20 years making next to no changes from the original recipe Final Fantasy drastically changes from title to title(for better or worse).

Really?Are you serious?I may not like the direction they are taking with FF XV, but FF is arguably one of the most influential and important franchises in gaming history.

-Critical reception?Hell yes

-Popularity?Yes, without a doubt

-Sales?Yes, though this can be argued that there are better selling JRPGs out there.

-Online competitive community?No, but why the hell would it have that kind of community when FF was and is always a single player game?

-Influence on gaming industry?Of course, thats a no brainer.That should be beyond obvious.

-the cross media point?Outside of gaming there is some, but nothing major, but what about it?Few franchises does that and are successful in these ventures in the long run

-A cultural icon?Of course.Again, that is beyond obvious, as obvious as the Influence on gaming industry point.

You can't seriously believe Final Fantasy is more popular than Pokémon or sells more or is a bigger cultural phenemenon/icon. Seriously, did you live under a rock for the last twenty years? Didn't you see the hype Pokémon Go unleashed on the world this year?

And FF has an MMORPG, so no FF isn't always a single player game. Dragon Quest had a much bigger influence on the video gaming industry than FF by the way, including on FF itself.

And many main-line FF games have received mixed reception from fans and critics alike.

Who wants to be good, when you can be great

I'd be happy if this game was half as awesome as LoD
