Nintendo loves pissing off it's fanbase so this wouldn't surprise me at all, but I still think it's unlikely. Twilight Princess was in the same situation and they still released that.

FFXV took 10 years and under a different name. Last Guardian took 9 years. BoTW will take about 5 years. :P

I'm not trying to defend the move, I'm just saying that, given the right circumstances, it could make sense for Nintendo to make such a dicky move. Also, that something like this would piss off many people is secondary because despite what they're saying now, most of them will end up buying the console anyways. |
Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. We'll find out in the coming months what will happen.

Umm...yes, they did. The promoted a Wii U game at E3. It was playable on the Wii U. Also, it would be too expensive for them not to release it on Wii U. Porting it to the Switch probably took additional tima and money on top of all the money they had already spent. Releasing the game on both consoles would give them a greater return on their investment.

I feel the same, if they don't launch Zelda BotW on Wii U I'm done with them. But you and I, and the rest of member of this site and others, are the minority and we have top accept that we don't represent the whole gaming market. Cancelling the Wii U version of BotW may mean them losing a few hundred consumers (and it remains to be seen how many of them would end up buying the new console at a later date), but if that means selling several thousand units more of Switch to the general users, they may find that it's worth it. |
I dunno, it wouldn't just be a matter of pissing off Wii U owners, the company would also lose a great deal of credibility in the eyes of gamers. They would be proving themselves as liars and making any future promises they make untrustworthy. Given their perilous position at the moment, I think they would suffer considerably from the amount of bad PR such a move would attract. That doesn't mean they won't do it, but it would be a foolish move. Then again, they've made plenty of foolish moves before.

Nintendo isn't already untrustworthy? Ha! I take everything they say that isn't backed by anything with a grain of salt these days.
Totally agree on negative feedback having an impact, no doubt it stifled the sales of games like Amiibo Festival/Starfox Zero/Color Splash/etc.

Well, yeah, they are already untrustworthy, I agree, and that's why they can't afford to lose even more consumer faith. The last thing they need right now is a public relations debacle.
I'll honestly sell my Zelda Wii U if they do and never touch a new Nintendo product ever again. Honestly the only reason I bought a Wii U in the first place.

Nintendo's image would be hurt by a move like this, but I don't think it would be as bad as you think, specially if they do it at the right place and moment. For example: if they announce it during the Switch conference on Jan., it would only be another article/headline that would soon be swallowed by the many other articles (positive or not) about the Switch.
I would notice it and it would still piss me off, but I can't say the same for the majority of people on this site, and even less for the people outside the internet.
Please excuse my bad English.
