Forums - Gaming - Switch can play every 4K Scorpio/PS4 Pro game above 720p. Basic maths.

Is not crappy for anybody, is just that some people want to feel superior, 1080p is great, there should be more focus on getting the 60fps thing done right before going for more than 1080p

Will never happen, Sony & Microsoft are after the 4k meme when they can't even do 1080p 60fps right.

Honestly i'm fine with 1080p for 10 more years, just make 60 fps standard for every game.

oh well, at least there's PC for fast paced games.

I lost all hope for Sony's first party pro suport after learning Horizon won't have a 60 fps mode, just more resolution and effects.

Sony has 4K TVs to sell. 60FPS isn't as important to them.

PC gamers tend to throw all the extra GPU power into high and stable framerate. The only games where low framerate would be preferred over increased resolution are RTS and nobody makes them anymore.

There is so much wrong in these two tiny sentences that I really don't know where to start correcting the mistakes and generalizations.

People spending $1000s just to play Counterstrike in 240FPS means I got something right though, doesn't it?

Most gamers would prefer to play any competitive game in 60FPS+ if it meant lower resolution.

Yeah.... Low Framerate for RTS games???? xD

First of all 720p * 9 = 4k.

Second of all that only has regard for rendering the exact pixels, there are more things that decides what it can render. For example we don't know how much gpgpu compute it can do, we don't know how much ram bandwith it will have, we don't know what types of bottlenecks it could have in general.
It really is too early to call.

Yet I would bet you aren't watching silent movies in P&B

I do sometimes

But I find your comparison a little bit exaggerated. What you do is comparing  crazy looking 4k games with Pong^^

Good for you, there are some good old movies =p

It in exaggeration to compare to goodnightmoon comparison. He is always on full parade against graphics as if they are the reason for bad gameplay and basically put that all non-nintendo games are souless. Considering his equivalent on movie scene would be those guys that think cinema died after color and sound I made the comparison.

In what kind of logic makes sense that if you are not seing a stupid hollywood blockbuster filled with special effects and tons of cliches you gotta be watching silent movies in B&W? There's a whole world in the middle.

In the same kind of logic that you consider all games that aren't nintendo or that go for high graphics are bad and souless.

720p in 2017 is not respectable.....It wasn't even respectable in 2013 lol XB1 has been getting hammered for playing games at 900p so what makes you think people are going to be okay with 720p?

Well, it's mainly a portable console. Running PS4-like games in 720p on the go is actually quite respectable. We have mobile games running at 1080/1440p on high-end phones, but they usually fail to surpass even a Vita game as Killzone Mercenary. The current mobile scene is quite pathetic and upping things to current gen graphics is actually pretty impressive.

Nobody but you said that though.

Honestly, nobody is saying the contrary.

The problem is that developers work on a budget, both money and time wise.

Both the PS4 and the XB1 have a very similar architecture.

If Nintendo comes out with something different and does not have the launch line up to "force" buyers into pre-ordering their new console, do you believe that these developers will invest time and money into their already restricted resources?

Here is the real question and I will like somebody to make a thread about it:

Assuming that we already have an XB1, a PS4 or a PC at this point. Are we willing to sacrifice visuals and performance in exchange for the commodity that a portable console can offer?

If my mindset goes towards performance, why will I ever buy a multi-platform on the Switch?

The main reason why the WiiU lost third party support was not due to low performance, it was due to low hardware sales and because people were getting 3rd party software for other platforms.
