Forums - Microsoft - Xbox is 15 years old today - Thoughts/memories of the console?

I love the original Xbox, and imo it's the best console MS have released by some distance. Although it was big and ugly, on the software side it did everything right to me. Lots of new IPs, lots of great ports and massive third party support.

Halo was the best shooter I had played at the time, and Halo 2 refined and improved upon it in every way. Project Gotham Racing 1&2 are still among my two favourite racers, as are Rallisport Challenge 1&2. It had great Sega ports, Panzer Dragoon, Shemue II and Jet Set Radio Future, and Outrun 2006 was a great game also. KOTOR I & II were exceptional, and that franchise is probably the one I want to come back most out of any franchise on any console. It also had my first introduction to the Elder Scrolls with Morrowind, and I think Xbox was the first time I really got into Western RPGs, having only been playing JRPGs on PS2. Edit: Fable was a fantastic RPG too

I also remember playing lots of sports games, like Top Spin and Links. I even quite liked Blinx the Cat and Brute Force.

So what do you remember about the original (and best) Xbox? Did you like it? How does it rate among all the consoles you have owned?

Halo was king. I remember buying it and Halo 2 and they were awesome. Xbox really was a fantastic console. It was massive, but fantastic.

My best memories are of playing Halo 2 online with some friends, using super jumps and other tricks to get outside of the maps and explore them for Easter eggs. Good times. I also really enjoyed playing the KOTOR games and Fable on it. And I loved the controller (the S, not the Duke), still the most comfortable controller for my hands.

Ah, shit, I forgot about Fable. Love that game too, played through multiple times

Hands down my favorite era of gaming (ps2 and PC included).

Halo 1 and 2, Splinter Cell series, Hitman series, Timesplitters series, Max Payne series, Onimusha series, Otogi, Project Zero 1 & 2, Oddworld Strangers Wraith, Doom 3, Half Life 2 and so many more.

Halo Combat Evolved, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Hitman Contracts, Timesplitters 2 would be in my top 5 games of all time.

I've just started rebuying my favorite Xbox games. I would like a collection of around 50.

I liked the console, a lot. Halo 1 and 2 were amazing, but I also spent a lot of time playing Jet Set Radio Future and Shenmue 2. Overall, good console; great if you take into consideration that it was their first console hardware attempt.

I prefer her younger brother, 360, above it in almost everything else, but won't deny OG Xbox was damn great.

I mostly remember the enormous pad, Oddworld Stranger's Wrath and Jet Set Radio Future.
I played JSRF again a couple years ago and was suprised at how buggy it was. I still love Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, I bought the remaster on vita.
One of the things that impressed me the most back then was the internal HDD. I immediately filled it with music.

Forgot another great RPG

Never owned an OG Xbox myself, but I had a friend back in elementary who had CoD2, CoD3, CoD FInest Hour, and Halo 2.

He'd talk about Halo 2 all day, and how it has the greatest multiplayer, and after trying it for the first time, it was pretty addicting.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

my favorite Xbox memory was last month with SF3

cool, you have it still hooked up

I wish I could go back to the xbox, but I had to sell most of it to fund more game purchases
