Forums - Sales - October 2016 NPD Thread! Software and hardware estimates up!

Good to see PSVR not catching on. I'm sure it will do ok but I'm not a VR fan. Sony done goofed with the slim and the Pro will similarly be a dud. Sales are probably really close though since MS doesn't exactly have very good bundles.

Next year I'm sure Sony will double down on the exclusive deals and bundles, since they did well for Sony in the past few years. They will obliterate MS when the bundles come back.

While they do - do black friday crazy, you are ignoring the pre orders. It was announced early September. So those are pre orders of September, October, and all the ones that will sell in November.

No matter how crazy Xbox does a black friday sale - do you really think it can beat 3 months of pre orders + the regular sales of november + any black friday deals Sony does?

Read my comment above ^. i will say it again, fully expect sony to win november therefore i don't think Xbox crazy deals will beat all 3 months of sales..

I am saying that it will be more competitive than most people on here are led to believe. They both will say really well.

Majority of the USA sales are on the holidays, both will sell well. But Sony will outsell the Xbox One by more than it outsold the PS4 in the last 4 months. How can that be considered competitive ?.

I think that, even last year, they outsold the Xbox One by 200k+ in November.

Neither the Pro and specially PsVR set the world on fire.
For many people a BF XOne for 250 and a bunch of games is a better deal than a bare Pro for 400

Most didn't expect the PSVR to set the world on fire. The thing costs a lot and will take a while to go down to mass market price. However, you can't say anything about the Pro because we're not even a week into its launch. We have assessments from two people who manage Walmart and Best Buy that the Pro had high preorders, significantly higher than XB1S sales. Abdiel also mentioned that his friend who works at Gamestop saw the same thing.

You can argue that post-launch Pro sales may not be high, but I'd rather wait for assessments from people who actually manage in retail.

I'm looking at 2013 XO and PS4 launch. Even with both consoles breaking record sales and shortages the 360 and PS3 BF performance were preaty good. I might be wrong but I don't see Pro's appeal for PS4 owner's, only the early adopters. The interest seems far lower than it was back in 2013.

"Seems" is not a good enough assessment. You need to provide something better than what you think is going on. For instance, Mat Piscatella said that consumers are reacting positively to the Pro. I'd rather base my conclusions off of an NPD analyst than whatever you provided.

All Microsoft needs to do now is keep expanding on big AAA games. Microsoft buying Gears and Minecraft this generation has helped them a lot.

Isn't the ps4 pro above all other systems on every game store( bb target amazon etc)

Also ps4 pro selling out here in Holland.

I think XBOX One s is now right in the perfect zone of affordability and a perception of a true contender for a perceived 4k experience at a budget price. This was a brilliant move from Microsoft. Of late their overall innovation strategy including Surface (Studio, Pro 4, Book with i7 etc) suggests an approach of incredible creativity and an effort to succeed. I honestly think that this would be troubling for Sony given that the PlayStation line of business is their only profit making line of products. Sure, the pro will help a little but that will be limited to a short timeframe (launch and soon after) and cannot compete with a true budget 4k slim machine like the One S (even if it is just upscale). Most normal people do not care for this (or know the exact difference like us nerds) and are budget conscious. Sony have a real concern here.. Don't believe me?? Just wait a 24 months and see for yourselves. Sony should have included their 4K vision with the Slim..Terrible mistake in my opinion. And yes PS4 pro will take November and possibly December (but far less likely as Christmas shoppers are budget wise - for kids gifts etc), but it will be short lived until Sony can review their hardware again or knock down the price to below Xbox One levels. Yes these surely are exciting times. Its amazing to see what a desperate and aggressive company strategy can achieve (Not just against Sony, but also Google and Apple)..

Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Gamertag:  GamertagOz70

most probably because people are waiting for the PRO
