Forums - Gaming - Go on the Record: Video Game Power

I do, but only insofar as it will allow for new gameplay experiences. I love the Witcher 3, and without the power of modern systems that game would not be possible, but the fact of the matter is, the vast majority of my gaming time is spent playing games that could have easily run on last gen consoles. My newest addiction is Tennis Elbow 2013! That game could run on a toaster!

Hell, even DOOM, as great as it is, I feel could be scaled down to run on a Wii U without compromising any of the things that make it fun.

I don't. I love 5th gen games even if they look like shit XD Hell I bet 90% of the 1080/60FPS people here would hate playing Goemon on the N64 which runs at, what, 14-20FPS? It's bad but I dont really care. Graphics and power never mattered. Hell, I love things like bad graphics. Pokemon Red/Blue are objectively ugly ass games but I like them for that

I care to a degree, but it all relates to diminishing returns.

Last generation enjoying the PS3 and Xbox 360's graphical showcases did not prevent me from enjoying Skyward Sword on Wii.

Having said that, its incredibly jarring going back to a retro game for anything other than brilliant gameplay. The latter being why I still have a great time running Pokemon on a 3DS for example.

I mean... I don't actually own a Wii-U but I'm fairly sure it was more powerful than the SNES which made a damn good effort at Doom!

It still blows my mind that that game was running on a SNES. Insane.

I've never played it, though. XD

Bruh.

Oh! As of the 31st of August MP1 was still in your top games of all times, you're good people! Oh yeah... on reading the comments section I knew this fact, man I need to slow my commenting on here and remember the people I'm commenting to! Doh!

Lmao, it's fine. You're obviously right, though. Metroid Prime is one of the finest examples of good game design with still beautiful aesthethics that runs like all games should on now-dated hardware out there.

I can point you to some games with amazing graphics but are not very good games. Similarly, RE4 is a better game than RE5 despite the improvement in graphics. The PS2 Ratchet & Clank games are collectively regarded more highly than the PS3 ones despite the upgrade in graphics.

Also, for those who think graphical power translates to sales... No. Do I even need to recite the numerous historical examples where the weaker hardware sold better? I'm pretty sure everyone here knows by now.

I care about power so much that every year i put off buying a PC when they publish their new road maps. It is like OH i want that now, but then something better i son the horizon.

I think its relative. I guess i care more about the game as a whole rather than the graphics. I care more about FPS and loading times actually.
But, i also like the way consoles work. I am not interested in the idea of upgrading a console every 2 years because that is the same thing i dislike having to do on the PC. I like the garantee a console is supposed to give me that it will run the best games for the next 5 or so years.

So, do i care about power? To a degree, yes. But not for better graphics, but gameplay reasons. Not willing to buy a new system every 2 years for it though.

You've never played the original Doom? or the SNES version of it you mean? surely, I wouldn't even know where to start with what version of the original game to play if you haven't ever enjoyed it... I think I have it pretty much in every variation GBA/SNES/Saturn/32X (don't even own the addon, just had to buy the game) N64/X360/PSone Just... such a good game, I once done a side by side of the Saturn to GBA version of the game just to compare them framerate wise... ya know, obviously the GBA version was So much smoother to play, while graphically inferior the frame rate of the saturn game just makes it borderline unplayable and the saturn itself sounds as though it is about to die trying to render the game
