Forums - Nintendo - Would you be ok with certain Switch games only playable while docked?

If the capabilities between being docked and not being docked are different enough that certain games can only run while docked then I think I would be ok with that. What are your thoughts? I mean you're still getting both a console and handheld in one system.

Personally, I wouldnt care either way, since I would play most games on docked mode, and only on portable those who translated better to a smaller screen and were less demanding.

But no, it would simply kill the whole point of the console, and could anger people for no reason.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yes. My switch will almost always be docked.

I thought the whole point was play the same games on the move and at home. Enough processing power off battery to run games at 720p on the small screen and docked enough to run the same game at 1080p with perhaps some anti-aliasing thrown in.

I'm still wondering if it has to be docked to connect to hdmi. There may be an option where you can hold the tablet to play on the big screen using wireless display between tablet and dock.

I will play mostly docked, so more demanding games will be played at home. If I am traveling then I will play Mario or whatever less demanding (but still visually beautiful) game Nintendo dishes out. Mario and Zelda will both most likely work well for being on the go though. Of course, thats my assumption because Nintendo doesnt seem to push their games too hard on the hardware. If Nintendo could make Star Fox in house that would be great. It was pointless to hire Platinum Games to make that.

There don't seem to be any good reasons for doing so, so no. If it was designed like that, maybe, but as it is, it would seem like a huge waste.

Sure, if it ain't the majority of Switch games but only a few exceptions.

Depends on the games, but I don't think I would really mind, unless it was a game I would really want to play portably?

Totally depends on the game. Something like Bayonetta yes I would as it's not a game that translates well on a small screen to me with performing combos. Nor does Metroid Prime or RE7. You lose a lot of atmosphere that way the game is trying to build to make you uneasy. So those kind of games totally fine being docked only.

I would be ok with it, but it would kinda defeat the purpose of the handheld portion of the device. I am fairly certain that all games will be playable on the go.
