Forums - Gaming - So Nintendo officially quit console gaming. Switch is a handheld system

This is what I call a pre-emptive strike. You guys don't want your precious narrative about Nintendo selling less home consoles each generation to go away.

The dock is actually a toaster, people.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If there's a graphical improvement when you plug the device on the TV, I wouldn't call it a handheld system. Maybe the dock provides the extra power to run the device fully clocked. So that would be actually a home console with a portable mode.

Nintendo confirmed it's not.

Technically Nintendo did not ;)

"The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."

Note how charging and Providing power are different statements. A scenario where the docked system consumes more power and outputs higher performance is not out of the question.

They obviously mean different resolutions in "portable" and "home" modes.

When you connect your notebook to the poweroutlet it charges the battery and power the notebook, so? It doesn't necessarily means it make it more powerfull.

In which case the dock is responsible for graphical output that wouldn't be feasible for the portable tablet.

"Providing power to the system" part interests me, the handheld phase uses batteries, so output is limited, but when docked it has mains power to draw from, this may give it a substantial boost in performance

And in any such case no where does Nintendo outline the full functionality of the dock. People shouldn't say it's confirmed when Nintendo hasnt themselves said it. I dont expect a discrete Gpu but people are still reconstructing Nintendo's words.

When the company most interessed and worried about the system put that the main functionality is tv output and charging without being explicity on enhacing the system I wouldn't be very confident that it is really that much more enhancement.

Good thing. They are better in developing handhelds than developing home consoles.
