Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 360 port or the new HD version of skyrim on Switch?

When it comes to playing it on a handheld, I will happily accept any version of something like Skyrim on it. If it was out I would be playing it right now and not posting here :o

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

In the video, 99% sure that is the Remastered version. The lighting is the biggest give away, I've modded and played vanilla Skyrim for ages and that is *not* the terrible lighting original Skyrim has. It could be a customized version thereof though, most graphical effects aren't hard to scale down.

At first I wouldv'e thought this question was trolling, but if specs are true it could very well be the original version with bonus content or something like that. Maybe that's why Bethesda didn't confirm anything

I imagine it will be a port of the original PC version, not the 360.

That way it can look considerably better than the 360 version and maybe even offer 1080p.

Maybe its the original PC version... with a mod!

I think that would be a logical route to go because the PC specs of Skyrim Special Edition are very high compared to the original.

Its the same game with improved graphics so that would be acceptable in my opinion.

The Skyrim Remastered version is basically just what yoiu said.  It's the PC hd textures, some texture maps are probably decompressed (remove the blocky effect on character noses and chins), *maybe* a few mesh tweaks, and a new lighting/rendering engine (basically what you get from an ENB with mods and what BGS did with Fallout 4).  And then it runs at a higher resolution with more AA and AF to improve image quality.  It would be simple enough to reduce the requirements on consoles by reducing the AA, AF, and resolution a bit.

Well the requirements for the PC version are high and the recommended are really high.

So it sounds like starting with the original PC build and tweaking it is the best route for Nintendo Switch. Its the same game so that would be fine.

The lighting is a clear giveaway that it's the remastered one. Or at least some version of it.

Well, Bethesda's PC specs have always tied into their lack of good optimization :P

But the issue with building from the original PC version is the main, major improvement is the new lighting and rendering going on.  And the only difference from the PC version and the console versions was that you could turn up the settings.  They are still very similar.

The easiest way to reduce requirements on the console version is to scale back some of the easily scalable features.  LOD can be reduced a bit, AA and AF reduced a bit, run it at 720p.  Still be a marked improvement over the original close enough to the Xbone version.

It could be the new shaders and new/improved effects are resource intensive. The Switch is small device and you may be over simplifying the port process.

The original PC version is less resource intensive. Switch could probably run it with highest settings 1080p/30 fps. That's a good reason to go with that version versus a scaled back remaster.
