Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch probably more powerful than the Xbox One S, gets PS4 ports

I understand, but when he's talking about possible 3DS games support, the console being for the West and not for Japan, the Nintendo shares losing value being a strategy from Nintendo, and the Switch being the savior of the morose industry because Yves Guillemot said so, he sounds more like an internet fanboy than a professional. He does give a few information (Ubisoft, Platinum and Capcom having Switch exlusive games), but a lot of the discussion is just Nintendo fans talking about their dreams and wishes for the console. So I would take the whole video with a lot of caution. I'm not saying that he can't have insider information, just that it's not the subject or mood of this video.

He gives one more interesting information, he thinks that the Wii U will be connected to the Switch in order to use its DVD reader (and run the Wii U games).

I don't care much about his hopes, he is a Nintendo fan & shows it, what I care is what he says about the console tech performance... Not in this video but an older one from september on this channel he says, that porting games from PS4 is happening & said games work at 1st try & need almost no optimization, he said that the console even has some "muscle left" that allow optimizations over the PS4 version of the game... It's hard to believe, even for me a Nintendo fan, due principaly to the size & handheld factor of the Switch, but you can't deny that there is a lot of 3rd parties supporting it (even if we don't know how many & what games will en up on it), some of them who haven't released games on a nintendo console like in forever & they wouldn't be there if the console was weak & hard to port to.

Again, give me near X1 level of performance @ 300$ with 3rd party support & Nintendo could have a winner!!! I was very skeptic after the reveal (to say the least), but since some interesting info has appeared painting a rosier picture!!!

I guess we'll know soon enough, I won't lose sleep over this anymore, I'll judge the info when it's coming & see if the Switch is worth my money!!!

Man... if he is making mistakes of his "inside" information on a day difference spam (like the 3DS compatibility) how precise do you think is his rumour on oldest info that doesn't even make sense... X1 after all the updates on Slim and PS4S are both larger than this system even without having batteries and LCD screen, but you think this Tegra HH would be stronger than X1S? It doesn't even make sense. As said before, this looks more like wetdreams than reality.

You speak as if you don't know or never seen a laptop computer... here it is a smaller decive with battery & screen way more powerfull than a PS4S/X1S, even comes with a keyboard & speakers:

It's not like the PS4S/X1S are the smallest devices for their power, I get what you say though, that is why I say that to have X1 kind of performance in a Switch Nvidia would need to do some black magic, but you never know, tech is always & ever evolving, we're speaking of 3 year old tech that wasn't even cutting edge when it was released 3 years ago, I hope you get my point as I do get yours ;)

That laptop is "a lightweight 2.3kg". How much do you think the Switch will weight?

It also has a battery runtime of less than 1 hour when gaming with maximum brightness: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Strix-GL502VS-Notebook-Review.171567.0.html

It also heats up to 47 °C (116.6 °F) on the outside when playing 3D games... that's far too hot for a handheld device.

Does it cost under 300 USD and uses tegra?
I know it's possible to do things lot smaller and powerfull, but you compromise in some area.

So... 2.3 kg, 1 hour battery time, heats up to 47°C, and.... 1400 euros for the cheapest version on Amazon.

Thanks for explaining so clearly why this isn't possible with the Switch ;)

Thank you for missing the point... am I even comparing the Switch to this laptop???

Don Ferrai was implying that you couldn't do PS4S/X1S kind of perf with a smaller casing, I just pointed out you can do way better perf with big screen & added stuff for way smaller than a PS4S/X1S size factor, I'm aware it's expensive, but that was not the point.

Do I believe you can do X1 perf with a Switch size factor??? I would be very, very impressed if Nvidia could pull it of, that is why I speak of black magic if they can achieve this. Read what I'm writing, don't cherry pick parts of sentences & distort them out of context, thank you!!!

In order to "get PS4 ports" it only needs to be as powerful as the Vita
cause of all the Ps4+Vita games..

I'd prefer to see it less powerful than X1 to be as cheap as possible, I'd mostly use it in portable mode anyway so 720p would be quite enough

Of course you can put PS4/XBox One level of power in a really small console, that's not even a question. You can make devices way more powerful and way smaller pretty easily. The question has always been about the price of the device at the end. It's impossible to do it with a consumer friendly price. And whatever is your point with this link (I get that you don't think it's possible, but others think it is), this laptop shows perfectly this.

imposibru.

Maybe is just proportional. ps4 runs at 1080, xb1 at 900 and switch at 720. Using linear regression to Gflops and these vertical resolution as inputs, switch should be 800Gflops.(too naive estimative?)

But my concern is about memory bandwidth... one order of magnitude lower than ps4 and x1. that can compromise the ports significantly, not?

Perhaps you are the one missing the point.

I'm implying that you won't be able to do a under 300 HH with Tegra processor to outdo PS4 and X1. Have you disproved it? No. You just tried to be smart by showing a notebook that is smaller than PS4/X1 but more powerfull, but it doesn't even belongs in the same discussion.

You would be very impressed because it isn't possible to do what it would be needed to achieve right now that form factor, portability, power and funcionality.
