Day one purchases and preorders should never, ever be habitual and should always be contextual based trailers, track record of the company for honesty in said presentations, previews, reviews, quality of the series, and developer consistency. That's not patience imo, that's just common sense.

I'm proud to say I've never once pre-ordered. I feel like all the incentives that game developers give to those who pre-order are way too much.

I buy most games I really want to play day 1.

I only preorder when I have enough confidence in the product's quality. I always preorder the mainline Pokemon becuse I know they are going to work great from day one. But things like new IPs or games from franchises that have had some sort of dud in the past are not safe enough for preorders.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Of course it is. If you just wait a few months, very often you get all the DLC, all the patches for the best experience and you pay a fraction of the launch price. It depends on the game, though. Nintendo games never get significantly cheaper and they come without major bugs, so you're good to go. But with games like Battlefield, it's just silly to buy at launch. Such games lose value so damn quickly, it's not even funny!

For me personally, there are just a few exceptions from this golden rule. I always buy Fallout at launch. I know it seems silly, because everything applies here just like with other games. But I friggin' love Fallout to death! I also never ever play the DLC from Fallout. I don't know why. I didn't do it in the past and now it has become kind of a ritual, lulz.

I also buy GTA right at launch, because that sucker takes his sweet time to get cheaper.

Then there's Civilization. That one gets cheap rather quickly, but screw it. I'll be playing each new iteration at least a thousand hours until the next one arrives, so spending 50 € isn't asking too much.

Games I really want I get day 1. Games I like I wait a few months. Everybody will see their own value in a game and if everybody waited for the game to be discounted it would be only contribute to the industry going backwards. More developers would disappear.

im starting to wait more. except with games im super excited about. content and length are also playing a big factor for me.

i have no problem paying full price for a game like the witcher 3 for example. but i wont pay 20$ for Until dawn though.

im gonna wait on Battlefield 1, Destiny 2 (till the full edition releases) and Mass effect for example. and im waiting on The Division, Need for Speed and Until Dawn till they hit the price i want for them.

Why would I not buy day one things that I know I'm gonna enjoy? I just preordered FFXV and WoFF. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong or stupid about it. If you're gonna be disappointed then it's your own problem to deal with and either learn or not learn from it.

While preorder culture has led to some terrible consequences for consumers it's not yet bad enough to stop myself and miss out on day one bonuses.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

With the Amazon Prime and Gamer's Club discount from Best Buy, day one purchases don't feel quite as risky. It's rare that I absolutely hate a game I buy, and even if I do, I can always trade it in for credit. I just make sure to buy games that I'm very interested in to begin with, and with the huge number of betas these days, it's not too hard to get a decent amount of gameplay out of the big releases before they come out.

It depends on the game. I won't wait any longer for TLG and I bought PSVR day one.

I'm not buying games anymore I'm not 100% sure about until they're on sale. Rottr can wait. That does have the risk I'll never play them. I bought watch dogs when it was cheap, AC unity for $10, dunno if I'll ever make time to play them. I should simply buy less games.

At least I'm not buying games day 1 anymore that I don't intend to play straight away. I still have to play Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition I bought day 1 :/
