Forums - Gaming - PlayStation VR First Impressions

Played it at my friends apartment, played a lot of the demos. Quick impressions:

PSVR:
- Games were much lower res than I thought. It was really jarring in a few of the demos, particularly Eve Valkyrie
- The headset was comfortable, took a bit of adjusting to find the sweet spot though.
- The head tracking was great in the momemt, but it would definitely start subtly drifting during gameplay. Constantly had to reset to center after a few minutes of play
- The most fun I had was with the Headmasters demo, and the game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (both which dont require movement at all)

General VR:
- Companies really haven't figured out FPS controls yet. Each FPS demo pretty much had different controls. It was like playing a demo disk when twin stick controls first came out and every game having a different way to use them
- Loading screens in VR suck. Like really suck. With a TV you can look away, check your phone, take a bite of your sandwhich, etc. With VR your in a dark room with a loading spinner strapped to your face.

Conclusions:
- I had fun but don't feel compelled to buy one
- Would love to try out other headsets to see how they compare

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Quick Impressions: very positive!
Only played a few demos. Rush of Blood was the biggest crowd pleaser.
Resolution could be better. If the PS4 Pro improves this, I'll buy one!!

Worth every penny! The future should be amazing and the present has me giddy!

Is only the RE7 Kitchen teaser in VR?

I tried to use VR in the RE7 Beginning Hour demo, but I couldn't find a VR mode there... at GamesCom I played that level in VR mode.

Quick comparison of DriveClub image quality

Although I had the same time of day and cloud cover, clouds have no effect in the VR version, still sunny with painted clouds, hence the difference in lighting. The vr version is as blurry as it looks although you see more than in the screenshot, plus 3D helps with the perceived quality. The missing assets and trees not covering the mountains in the distance is very obvious in VR though. The surroundings feel pretty bare. The car however looks much better than a social screen screenshot suggests.
Btw playing 2D DriveClub in theater mode VR makes the step back to 30fps quite painful. That low persistence Oled screen doesn't do 30fps games any favors.

I played more DC VR, half the stars collected already, started getting tired but decided to give Rez Infinite a try.
Wow!!! 3 hours later, simply amazing, first 10/10 game for me this gen. It's like playing inside a Vectrex on steroids. This game is simply perfect for VR. The Oled screen makes everything glow with perfect contrasting black level, the screendoor effect is nearly impossible to notice, sense of scale is immense.

Best played standing with one move controller. You can aim by simply looking in the right direction and/or by using the move. Once you get the hang of combining the two it's pure gaming bliss. Big grin on my face again and I had to stop myself from laughing out loud during the level 4 boss battle. Back and forth, turning every where, facing backwards with warning in the top corner 'move out of view' (it still works, you'll be turned back around soon enough) pure hectic fun!

I wanted to go to bed 3 hours ago, yet this game alone is worth getting the headset for. And I haven't even tried out the new area X yet. I really need some sleep now unfortunately, although I'm all hyped up after area 5. I didn't make it but was pretty close I think.
I fully agree with the Eurogamer review, Essential http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-10-14-rez-infinite-review

Glad to see this hidden gem getting more of the attention it deserves.

rez is perfect for vr. I agree

The PSVR has made me a believer. Mine works flawlessly. With the new updated media player, I'm going to download tons of 360 VR video to use on the device. I also plan on buying a PS4 Pro on day one since my only complaint is resolution. I can't say enough good things about it. I love it. I haven't felt this "in awe" about a product since the time I played SM64 back in 1996.

Anyone downloaded "Playstation VR Experiences" under the TV & Video section? What is it and is it any good?

I didn't realize that was a thing... I'll download it when I get home.

Ithink this is the app. Not sure if it's available outside of the UK.

Well crap, this thread makes me want one and a pro. No biggie, that's what the kid's college fund is for. I'm sure he'll understand in time. If not I won't be in the same reality anyway.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.
