VR has been done too early, I get companies wanting to be on the forefront of the tech, but unless you are willing to spend a fair bit of money (currently), you wont get a great result. Could have a good following till we get some hardware good enough to deliver, or it could kill the craze before then, a gamble.

Bookmarked.

Not sure, the more I've seen of the launch games the less hyped I've become. I've gone from really confident to just confident of long term success.

Sony have to get over the initial tricky period of software and hope developers gain confidence in the device to pump more money into bigger VR projects. Right now with so many companies on board with VR in general it does look promising.

Also Sony are in a much better financial situation compared to when they launched Move and Vita so they can be more riskier in supporting it with more money in the short term for long term success.

I truly believe that VR is here to stay this time around.

I think VR will just pave the way for AR personally. We'll have to see how the mass market decides.

VR is a fad.

And a pretty expensive one at that.

I guess if you go far enough back, people where saying the same thing about Radio, and TVs.

Its just a new medium, a new way to experiance things.

I doubt its a fad.

Tough call. Kinect had a MUCH lower entry price which kind of gave it legs, Before pretty much ending up as a glorified microphone. I guess it's gonna come down to software on VR's part, and that's any VR platform, not just Sony.

Not really the same thing. I think VR headsets are here to stay because they have practical uses and will get cheaper. For example, you could use a VR headset to play any game really.

But I don't think the gimmicky BS we currently see on VR will stick around.

I don't think VR is a fad, but the games on it are.

Essentially, I think people will eventually just wanna play basic TV games on a VR headset but they'll just be more immersive. Hence, I don't think people really care about the content built for the gimmick of VR. At some point that will just get tedious.

Kinda agree with you there. Job simulator type stuff is fun for a while yet just like Wii motion, Kinect and Move, I don't see it having much of a future. The play area will always be limited which will restrict the kind of games that can be made for it.

Sit down gaming will still be most popular. What VR needs is a Myst style game, specifically made to make use of the wide fov, 3D audio and new interaction possibilities. Horror games can make even better use of the wide fov but I don't think those can become as big as Myst did back in the day. Racing and flying is a given but is also a bit niche and possibly too intense for many in vr. 3D platformers can thrive, especially those where you need to keep track of your surroundings and perhaps rts will find a new home.
