Forums - Gaming - If CERN/NASA were to prove our universe is a simulation, how would it affect you?

I don't really see the point of that question. The universe might as well be a simulation but it's not like anything's going to change because we know it is.

I'd ask why the simulation allowed bans on website forums to exist.

What if the universe is a simulation with a safety protocol. When something in the simulation for example humans discover its a simulation and get the ability to fuck with it, it shuts down and restarts the simulation like in the matrix.
They patch the error and restart it in the hope it won't have to be reset this time.

So the big bang is the shut down and reset process meaning it last happened 10 billion years ago or whatever.

So should we really dabble with the system and risk being shut down or should we accept the reality and just live with it.

Feel about as meaningless as I already do now

Well, my idea of a simulation would be one where a set list of parameters has been setup and a system simply executes the rules in order. Even NASA and CERN test are manifestations of those rules and parameters.
The problem is that in our universe, energy can not be lost or gained. So how would we be able to communicate with someone outside of the universe. The source of the simulation would also have to be a part of the simulation... which leads to some really mind bending concepts.

Fortunately for the small minded human race, there is also another theory:

So it turns out that if you add up all of the positive and negative energy in the universe, the total energy is 0.

According to this idea, there is no simulation because there is nothing. Our universe is nothing more than a different form of nothing. Its like saying 0 = 1-1. They mean the same thing but they look different. You don't need a creator, a computer or even advanced AI to create nothing.

If would mean that we wasted the last few millennia trying to find an answer to a question that doesn't exist. Typical humans lol! Almost as bad as 'why is the sun the perfect distance away for human life' question. It is absolutely irrelevant.

That depends if we know the purpose of the simulation. Its purpose may be simply to manipulate it and enter the host universe in some form or another so "they" can figure out how to manipulate "their" universe/simulation and possibly find a way to escape into their own host simulation, climbing the ladder of simulations and so on until they found Universe one, the OG.

*mind blown*

ascension makes alot of sense, if that were the way of it.

Complain about the lack of checkpoints and save system, annoying unskipable cutscenes every night, no fast travel, repetitive gameplay, microtransactions everywhere, tedious matchmaking servers, laggy sound, unfair initial stats and spawn system, wonky difficulty curve, abilities degrading over time, cheap unfair deaths, conclusion a long grind that takes up all your time with no win scenario.
2/10. Still deserves two points for graphics and no frame rate drops.

I would ask for a terminal to enter /gamemode 1

A lot would change. Fuck, pretty much everything in society and public perception, would change. It would be the same outcome as if Aliens showed up with peace signs in Times square.

So what exactly would change except for the overreaction of some people about stuff they can't do anything about. It's the same as if someone would tell us that there is a human like alien species 500 million lightyears away.

What a stunningly creative idea.  I've actually done this before... we all have.  What you describing isn't a simulation (in the classical sense)... its a dream.

A dream is a simulated universe inside of our head.  We can talk with people and the people that we are talking to don't realize that they are just simulations inside of the dreamers mind.  In fact, if you don't believe me, try telling someone in your dream that they aren't real.  They wont beleive you.   Imagine their reaction if they relised that their existance would cease to be the moment you woke up.  Even that the form of yourself that they are interaction with is also just a simulation.   It stands to reason that we could be a simulation in someone else's dream.   Maybe a computer's 'dream'.  Sure.  Its possible.  And since dreams don't have to start at the beginning of the universe, but a beginning is always implied - the beginning of the simulation may not have even started yet.   The actual start of the universe may be trillions of years from now.  After all, you never start a dream at the beginning of time.  But the beginning of time still exisists.

If I did get a chance to ask the question... I would ask for a list of questions I should be asking.

But think about how many games have other awesome games in them?

This "life" game, has so many awesome experiances in it, that are basically all you can ever experiance anyways.

So spoilt for choice, I say its the best game ever :)
