Forums - Sony - Would you like a PSVita Pro?

I can't see Sony starting a new handheld generation with resetting the hardware base to zero.

But I would love to see an upgraded "PSVita Pro", compatible to all Vita (and PSP and PS1) games:

  • 1920x1080 instead of 960x544 (the GPU would output a 1920x1088 signal for compatibility reasons and ditch 4 lines at top and bottom)
  • less demanding Vita games (f.e. visual novels, point&click adventures, strategy games, some jRPGs) could render in native 1920x1080
  • more demanding Vita games could use the checkerbox upscaling similar to the PS4 Pro
  • optional native Vita mode (960x544, 2 lines at top + bottom are ditched) for better battery life
  • PS4 Pro remote play supports 1080p streams, a 1080p Vita Pro would be the perfect companion)
  • enhanced PSP mode (higher resolution, similar to PS2 games on PS4)
  • compatibility for digital PS2-games
  • microSD support... the 200GB cards have become quite cheap
  • 2 GB RAM (should be cheap by now, even in mobile devices)
  • L2 + R2 shoulder buttons
  • 3000+ mAh battery should be possible now by keeping the Vita weight and size

As long as they keep the online multiplayer free, yeah, I'd be interested.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yea, and see them ditch it after one year?

No thanks.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Fuck no

At this point I'd say no. You'd be better off just getting a Nintendo NX, as it's likely going to amalgamate what's left of the dedicated portable market, and that means taking the developers as well. And a Tegra X1 (if that is indeed the chip Nintendo uses) is far, far more powerful than what a "Vita Pro" would be.

That is a question that still gets me from time to time. After the NX's release, it's basically going to compete against the aged PS Vita and mobile for the reduced handheld market. However, there are tons of PS360/PS Vita games that could get a quick port to the system, specially considering that the Vita is still getting a lot of niche support, and those games could offer a quick profit with an NX port. Yet I don't know if the NX will have the audience necessary to keep alive those studios. It will have a Nintendo audience, but will they buy those games, specially if they are old?

No offense, but there is no point in having a more powerful Vita if no one is making games for it except a handful. And the Vita is more than capable of running the games it has.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Just like with the PS4Pro, I don't think this would be enough to convince me to buy a whole new console for.

in a heartbeat.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I'd rather then just make an X86 based Vita 2 that did pretty much what you're describing.

Actually, considering how far technology has come since the Vita came out they could probably make a handheld with a 7 inch 1080p screen that isn't much larger than the Vita.

Sell it for $299, then sell a $50 charging station that lets you hook it up to a tv. It wouldn't set the world on fire, but they could probably sell 25-30 million of those. As long ad the software was right (PS1, PS2, PSP, Vita, PSNow, PSVue, Netflix, ect.)

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
