I can't see Sony starting a new handheld generation with resetting the hardware base to zero.
But I would love to see an upgraded "PSVita Pro", compatible to all Vita (and PSP and PS1) games:
- 1920x1080 instead of 960x544 (the GPU would output a 1920x1088 signal for compatibility reasons and ditch 4 lines at top and bottom)
- less demanding Vita games (f.e. visual novels, point&click adventures, strategy games, some jRPGs) could render in native 1920x1080
- more demanding Vita games could use the checkerbox upscaling similar to the PS4 Pro
- optional native Vita mode (960x544, 2 lines at top + bottom are ditched) for better battery life
- PS4 Pro remote play supports 1080p streams, a 1080p Vita Pro would be the perfect companion)
- enhanced PSP mode (higher resolution, similar to PS2 games on PS4)
- compatibility for digital PS2-games
- microSD support... the 200GB cards have become quite cheap
- 2 GB RAM (should be cheap by now, even in mobile devices)
- L2 + R2 shoulder buttons
- 3000+ mAh battery should be possible now by keeping the Vita weight and size
