Forums - Gaming - If You Could Get Rid of One Genre, Which One Would It Be?

Premise is in the title; let's say that, for whatever reason, you're in the position to remove an entire genre from gaming. Side effects of this removal would include everyone suddenly hating the genre, meaning no backlash.

Personally, I would get rid of FPS. First person camera angles are fine if it matches the premise of the game, but I'm sick of games being made in first person for the purpose of shooting each other. I hate the controls, and it pretty much ruins one of my favorite things about gaming- character design and animation. No need to worry about stuff like that when you can't see your character, right?

What about you guys? Which genre of sub-genre would you get rid of?

More a business model than a game genre, but exploitative f2p models, I guess.

I like DLC, but I think there would be free actual gamers upset with the removal of sports games, even in a real life scenario.

Mostly just dudebros would be upset (but you could make them happy again by showing them Broforce).

Sports cause I find them yawn worthy

Sports, easily. No more shoe ins for EA, 2K and Konami :)

It's the one genre that while can be improved upon, why even have iterations anymore? There might as well be one game for each, and updated via patches. Maybe fans can purchase an upgrade every year if they want to, but there's no need to have these be full priced retail games anymore. Just have a game called Madden, NBA, MLB etc..no need for Madden/NBA/MLB 2K39 when that year comes.

Shooters as a whole, because I think making entire games revolving about shooting stuff is pretty bland gameplay-wise. Most games nowadays are either shooters or "mature" rated and I'm tired of seeing them everywhere, where's the variety from previous gens (Especially gen 6)?

I agree with sports games, they stopped being very fun a while ago.

Nailed it.

I would get rid of MOBA just to kill League of Legends.
