this mindset is kinda ignorant, this is to promote the brand and make money. This game is not inventive and that's good, the good stuff is on consoles.

Think this as a marketing move. Its a move that will cover itself in costs(and make billions at the same time for Nintendo), but its main purpose its to sell the main games in the consoles. Its a new level of marketing. |
I think this is overstating. This isn't just marketing.
This likely will be the main driver of Nintendo profit in the future. They are going to make a fortune off this, and this isn't a small game either ... apparently it's a full featured game with a lot of levels.
I think this is going to be tricky, becuase for every Apple user (for example) who is turned on to buying physical Nintendo hardware just to play Nintendo games, there likely are 1-2 people who will be quite happy with getting their Nintendo fix just through these apps (especailly casuals).

This. Anyone thinking Nintendo's mobile games will ever be a straight up actual first party game that you would see on their consoles is just being ridiculous or they're just lying to themselves. This isn't a real first party Mario game, it's something they made on the side for mobile to gain people's interest into WANTING the REAL Mario game on their actual systems.
They are basically just demos and tastes of what you can actually get on the real thing on the NX. It's a brilliant marketing move from Nintendo, make a quick little mobile game that gains people's interests, therefore making them buy the actual NX to get the real thing on it.

Who did you expect to be salty?
Nintendo, Sony, MS or Android fans?
It's a fantastic move really. The game probably cost a couple million to make. They could charge $5 for it and it will sell 50-100 million copies, making $250-500 million. Amazing. And it also keeps Mario in the minds of kids everywhere, maintaining brand value.

very smart move. here comes the money!

But the main purpose of the mobile games was always to be a "gateway" to bring back the casuals they lost with the Wii and bring a newer audience that isnt familiar with Nintendo. As for the last argument, its reasonable.I mean, I am also afraid of that. But Pokemon GO showed that that not only may not happen, but its likely it will not happen. And i mean, if you manage to make 5% of the players buy a NX, its 5% of 1 billion!(extrapolating a bit here).
Now, if it will be the main driver in sales or not, we dont know.It will depend on NX success. But it will be a good chunk of the profits for sure.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Gotta admit this looks kinda cool. |
This is a time waster...with a purpose. It looks so much fun! Might have to get an apple phone for myself this christmas since it isn't coming to android anytime soon.

Nintendo can say what they want publicly, IMO it's not an "advertisement" when it's making as much money if not more than your traditional game business. Look at Nintendo's stock ... it's exploding ... because stockholders know this app is going to make Nintendo a lot of money, that isn't about NX.
