Forums - Website Topics - Why are here so many PS3 haters?

yeah, it's too bad all consoles have their problems.....
PS3 --> beast to program/70-80% focus on games/high price.
360 --> RRoD/M$/overpriced accessories/pay for Live/
Wii -->weak hardware/shovelware/ummm...can't think of anything else right now......I need to hug my Wii......j/k

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Yeah to be honest i own a wii and a PS3. I do tend to favor nintendo(i've owned every nintendo console) but come on, i need some good FPS shooters with killer graphics from time to time, and that's how alot of people feel too, which is why PS3 is on the rise again.

I just like video games, whether it's sony, nintendo, or microsoft... and the only enemy in the gaming industry has to be the Vii 2, ok?!!

Assuming you mean why did PS3 get a lot of negative attention until fairly recently, you could write a book on that I suspect.

For one Sony did not handle the launch well nor make wise statements in the run up to the lauch. After the PS2 there was always going to be a feeding frenzy if the PS3 didn't match it from the start (funnily enough it has in a way) and it was deemed a terrible failure of a launch so right away there was a lot of momentum around painting the console is a bad light.

Then there were a fair few happy 360 owners, many of whom had been Xbox owners and felt 'their' console got an unfair shafting last time around so when it was turnabout many 360 fans leapt to crucify the PS3 with joy.

Thirdly a lot of folks felt Sony were to blame for Nintendo and Sega losing pace in industry (which is in a sense bollocks as that's simply what can happen in a competative marketplace) so when PS3 was deemed to launch poorly, then Wii took off, like many 360 owners there were those Nintendo fans who couldn't resist the chance to get in a few kicks when Sony was percieved to be down.

Fourth, I think a lot of Sony fans turned on PS3 because they wanted it to exist without BR and with DVD instead. Again, a somewhat silly reaction because it's up to Sony, Nintendo, etc. what they decide are the specs and you either like them or you don't, feeling betrayed is a little silly (although to be fair given the BR in PS3 was clearly part of a two pronged strategy to get BR as the standard for HD media there is some merit in gamers feeling Sony did not build the PS3 strictly to meet their needs).

Fifth, when every major company dominates for a period of time (i.e. Sony with PS1 and 2) there is a desire to give it a bit of a kicking and a concern its getting 'too successful' - hence it is judged much tougher than its competitors. There can be know doubt that the PS3 launch was subject to way more scrutiny than 360 or Wii (maybe in was just me but when 360 launched it was hardly a major event, more of a curiosity, how will MS's next mad move in videogames go?) and unless it broke all sales records it was clearly going to be judged harshly by many.

Just that summary makes me feel like I've written a book! And I doubt it even scratches the surface of the conditions around the PS3 launch and how it was recived.

To close I'd say that if the PS3 does start to come good I look forward to even more fun bashing on it, particularly from some 360 owners (most I know are wonderful people who are above such things, but sadly there are those in all three 'fan' camps who are not) as I guess if PS3 improves it will be the 360 fans who feel the need to react first - mind you I suspect by then there will be PS3 fans gloating about the resurgence of 'their' console and taking swipes at 360 (in fact this has started already as PS3 looks to be moving into a position to overtake 360 in Europe).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The ps2 hype killed the Dreamcast and knocked sega out of the console race, despite the DC having a far more superior game library in its first 2 years compared to the ps2's first 2 years.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about, by the start of the second year every single big PS2 game was out, and about 100 other games that scored over 80%.

Besides all of the above, I would say that many are following corporate PR (or going against it depending on how it struck you).

Going back to the 2006 E3, you had statements from Sony that were pretty arrogant.  'Get a second job', 'doesn't need games, people will buy it just to look at it', 'price should be higher', etc.   As well as their remarks about the Wii.

Microsoft took a different stance with the Wii.  Coined by Microsoft’s Peter Moore, Wii60 was the idea of buying both the X360 and the Wii for their different game play.

That attitude seems to have carried on, even at this site.  You see  those favoring PS3 lash out at the Wii or X360, and those two lash out against the PS3.  But less often do you see Wii supporters and X360's attacking each other.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

Better quetion: Why does it always seem to be somebody with a Square avatar making these sort of threads?

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Sony's rootkit didn't help either.

I've seen some, but same to the other side. They go around and, Bash this; bash that. I can't blame them since they don't have lives. Give them the petty pleasure they desire.

Why People didn't/don't like Sony:

1) Arrogance. Whether it be the gall to launch a $600 system with $60 games and $50 controllers, or the attitude of "Well, the PS2 had 120 million buyers so we'll have at least that much", it would seem that Sony was never too concerned with it's customers and more preoccupied with winning the DVD format war than provding its customers with the best gaming experience for the dollar (or your currency of choice).

2) DRM rootkit. I know this is Sony Music, but still, to install ILLEGAL spyware on your customers computers in the name of "preventing piracy" is just wrong. The irony is that they were basically commandeering your computer.

3) This is a little bit on the arrogance point, but both Sony and Microsoft are raising the cost of getting in to video games. Microsoft with it's $400 system, and Sony with it's $600 system, and $60 a game is absolutely insane. No regular gamer is going to want to pay those prices for something that doesn't cook their food or wash their clothes. Personally I think Nintendo's multiple controller thing is a rip off as well, but this isn't about them.

4) SIXAXIS. I'm sorry, but ripping off the Wiimote at the last second before launch was just not the right thing to do. The one positive you can give to Sony was that they could see just how big motion sensing could be and they reacted quickly to it.

This isn't to say that they don't have their positives (Free online play for now, HOME), but their negatives are a lot to overlook.

The level of fanboyism in here is very tolerable, it used to be slightly worse tbh.
I don't think the "PS3 fanboys" or "SDF" as some (or almost everyone) call them are more rabid than others, just a little more obvious.
What I really hate are "stealth trolls" who make constant jabs and foul comments without ever being reprimanded for it, they're trolling, but on the edge so as to avoid bans or warnings.
