Assuming you mean why did PS3 get a lot of negative attention until fairly recently, you could write a book on that I suspect.

For one Sony did not handle the launch well nor make wise statements in the run up to the lauch. After the PS2 there was always going to be a feeding frenzy if the PS3 didn't match it from the start (funnily enough it has in a way) and it was deemed a terrible failure of a launch so right away there was a lot of momentum around painting the console is a bad light.

Then there were a fair few happy 360 owners, many of whom had been Xbox owners and felt 'their' console got an unfair shafting last time around so when it was turnabout many 360 fans leapt to crucify the PS3 with joy.

Thirdly a lot of folks felt Sony were to blame for Nintendo and Sega losing pace in industry (which is in a sense bollocks as that's simply what can happen in a competative marketplace) so when PS3 was deemed to launch poorly, then Wii took off, like many 360 owners there were those Nintendo fans who couldn't resist the chance to get in a few kicks when Sony was percieved to be down.

Fourth, I think a lot of Sony fans turned on PS3 because they wanted it to exist without BR and with DVD instead. Again, a somewhat silly reaction because it's up to Sony, Nintendo, etc. what they decide are the specs and you either like them or you don't, feeling betrayed is a little silly (although to be fair given the BR in PS3 was clearly part of a two pronged strategy to get BR as the standard for HD media there is some merit in gamers feeling Sony did not build the PS3 strictly to meet their needs).

Fifth, when every major company dominates for a period of time (i.e. Sony with PS1 and 2) there is a desire to give it a bit of a kicking and a concern its getting 'too successful' - hence it is judged much tougher than its competitors. There can be know doubt that the PS3 launch was subject to way more scrutiny than 360 or Wii (maybe in was just me but when 360 launched it was hardly a major event, more of a curiosity, how will MS's next mad move in videogames go?) and unless it broke all sales records it was clearly going to be judged harshly by many.

Just that summary makes me feel like I've written a book! And I doubt it even scratches the surface of the conditions around the PS3 launch and how it was recived.

To close I'd say that if the PS3 does start to come good I look forward to even more fun bashing on it, particularly from some 360 owners (most I know are wonderful people who are above such things, but sadly there are those in all three 'fan' camps who are not) as I guess if PS3 improves it will be the 360 fans who feel the need to react first - mind you I suspect by then there will be PS3 fans gloating about the resurgence of 'their' console and taking swipes at 360 (in fact this has started already as PS3 looks to be moving into a position to overtake 360 in Europe).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
