Why People didn't/don't like Sony:
1) Arrogance. Whether it be the gall to launch a $600 system with $60 games and $50 controllers, or the attitude of "Well, the PS2 had 120 million buyers so we'll have at least that much", it would seem that Sony was never too concerned with it's customers and more preoccupied with winning the DVD format war than provding its customers with the best gaming experience for the dollar (or your currency of choice).
2) DRM rootkit. I know this is Sony Music, but still, to install ILLEGAL spyware on your customers computers in the name of "preventing piracy" is just wrong. The irony is that they were basically commandeering your computer.
3) This is a little bit on the arrogance point, but both Sony and Microsoft are raising the cost of getting in to video games. Microsoft with it's $400 system, and Sony with it's $600 system, and $60 a game is absolutely insane. No regular gamer is going to want to pay those prices for something that doesn't cook their food or wash their clothes. Personally I think Nintendo's multiple controller thing is a rip off as well, but this isn't about them.
4) SIXAXIS. I'm sorry, but ripping off the Wiimote at the last second before launch was just not the right thing to do. The one positive you can give to Sony was that they could see just how big motion sensing could be and they reacted quickly to it.
This isn't to say that they don't have their positives (Free online play for now, HOME), but their negatives are a lot to overlook.
