Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Slim Supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi

It amazes me that this never came out at launch. I guess gamers where talking up the specs so much that wireless multiplayer wasnt important. Feel sorry for those gaming on Wifi with a 2.4 connection.

This doesn't mean the chip doesn't suck which was the main problem for ps4. The “protip“ was always to use cables but then you don't need WiFi at all.
Let's wait for tests to be happy about an additional frequency.

I'm about to switch back to hard wire soon, sick of the wifi connection on my PS4 and Xbox One; I'm actually pretty sure the wireless chip/adapter in my Xbox is faulty. Anyway, better late than never for the 5GHz.

I don't seem to have too many problems with wifi on the PS4. But, I don't play a helluva lot online. I do stream a lot of Netflix and Youtube on PS4 and haven't had many cut outs.

Unfortunately there is no aesthetically pleasing way of having a wired connection.

Probably the difference between the 3ds and n3ds. Some slight changes in things like controller, ports...Nothing too fancy.

Actual difference will come with the Neo.

Well, I haven't played online multiplayer on my PS4, and it's connected with a wire anyway, but playing Rocket League on my PC with a 2.4 GHz connection works just fine. I'd say it's either your ISPs that suck, or the wifi card itself, neither of which will be fixed by 5 GHz

Maybe none, but it's exciting to think about.

Now why do you think Sony are putting better Wi-fi in their slim? Because they're positioning the slim as the 'bedroom' console in order to help them position the Neo as the 'living room' console.

I'm pretty sure anyone who takes their online gameplay/speeds seriously uses a wired connection anyway. I know I do.

Nope. Some people's router is in a completely different room from where they play their games ;)
