Forums - Nintendo - NX Buyers: 1080P Or Better Detail 720P?

Meh. Weaker than X1, I don't think we have the option to even prefer one over the other tbh

Wasn't the X1 the "900P" console? Even the PS4 isn't running 1080P games that flawlessly. So why are you asking what we prefer? It's gonna be 720p.

Consoles are lagging behind, not just behind PCs, but behind what's become the standard TV resolution. In the NX case, it's trying to be a hybrid, so we can let that one slide, but what's restraining the "HD twins"?

Is this thread real? 4K is around the corner and 720p is acceptable for a future console? lol

That's way too high price, I expecting price of around $250, $299 in worst case.

For just the handheld? Or for the supposed dock as well? Are you assuming the dock increases processing power in that price estimate?

I mean the 3ds launched at $250...

I guess I'll post my estimates.

NX Handheld Only (or with dock that gives no additional processing power) - $250

NX Handhled with dock (gives a moderate to substantial processing boost) - $350

With dock offcourse.

3DS was launched with $250 and had very fast price cut because it had way to high price, for Wii U they said had higher price than they wanted, for 3DS and Wii U launch price was huge problem. They also said they want affordable price for console, and it's obvious that with NX they going after mass market and that means affordable price, espacily with price point of PS1/XB1 $249-299 (in march 2017) and fact they launching platform in middle of generation with very strong competition.

There is no way they will again offer only handheld for $250 when PS4/XB1 will have price of $249-299 in march 2017.

Like I wrote NX handheld and dock for around $250, in worst case $299. If they sell them separate, $149-199 for handheld and $100 for dock.

Honestly it depends on the game. For most of Nintendo's titles, I'll go for 1080p I think.

Imagining it receives occasional PS4/X1 ports, I wouldn't play them on the NX but I guess 720p would make the most sense there.

Alternatively 720p as the general standard, 1080p with improved Alliasing etc with a $99 supplementary compute unit.

1080p and 60 fps or broke. But, that's not gonna happen, consoles are still too far behind.

If the NX could maintain this gap between it and the current next-gen consoles, I'd be relatively ok with that. This is that Unreal Engine 4 demo on PS4 Vs. Tegra X1:

Yes the Tegra X1 version here clearly is lacking some of the effects and details of the PS4 version, but it is essentially the same scene. Keep in mind too the X1 footage is recorded off screen by a cell phone camera, so its kind of an unfair comparison towards the X1, but you get the idea.

And y'know, doubling the memory bandwidth, improving the CPU, and the moderate spec bump X1 gets from going to X2 could close this gap a bit further too.

But this is assuming Nintendo pushes the Tegra tech to its maximum, which is yet to be determined as well.

Thanks for the comparisson. That X1/X2 performance would be acceptable looking at what Nintendo appears to be doing. If so, then 3rd western party support may be decent if the NX is a succes.

Pascal Tegra (X2) performance could likely be a good deal better than that too.

625 gigaglops (X2) from 500 gigaflop (X1) while not earth shattering is still a 25% improvement, and the memory bandwidth is a huge improvement (double), CPU would likely be better too depending on which config Nintendo uses.

Dont care. Just a steady stream of great games will be suffice.

Actually i prefer 1080p simply because i prefer to see the graphics brighter and clearer unless if it was for more foliage, which to me is more immersive then 1080p.

Again just to the remind the "1080p" folkes, choosing 1080p means Wii U level graphics.

You're not magically getting 1080p and close to PS4/XB1 graphics at the same time from a mobile chip.
