Forums - Gaming - [Eurogamer] PS4 slim is real (new images, now with video!)

After looking at it a few dozen times. The design is growing on me, I didn't like the Xbox One S design at first either. I will say, I still prefer the original design.

Yes but of course it's basically of no use for end users as there is no support for external drives.

You can backup your PS4-data since firmware 2.50 on a USB-HDD... so it is not useless, especially if you want to transfer the data to a different PS4 model (f.e. from launch-PS4 to PS4 Neo). And you don't want to backup or restore 0.5 - 2.0 TB with USB2.0

Well, that depends on if you have many small files or many big files but sure, for backups it might be useful. But that's basically the only thing where it makes sense.

Looks pretty good. I was never blown away by the ps4 design but I'd say this is an improvement.

So how much smaller is this model compared to the other one? Because it doesn't look that small (then again, I think all of this gen and last's consoles are too big for my taste).

You know it deserves the GOTY.

No 4K? I hope it can at least upscale with HDMI 2.0.

If not i hope they are targeting $199-$249 for a 500GB console.

Dont have any measurement or offical numbers, but the height reduction seems to be the biggest part.

Its like 20-25% less in height than the normal PS4, in terms of width and length, its also a tiny bit smaller.

But yeah... this isnt as big a shrink, as the XB1 -> XB1slim.

It's a lot flatter, the other dimensions haven't changed much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPttLK5b29c

The console looks even better in the video and sat under the TV.

I'd say it is around 70% in height, which would result in 70% volume if the other dimensions were the same. Since it is also a bit shorter, the volume reduction should also be in the 40% area, so the shrink is similar to the XB1slim.

It looks like a less drastic shrink than the Xbox One Slim was.

I know its hard to eyeball these things, but I doubt they shrunk it that much.
