Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Says It’s Looking To Appeal To Both Causal And Core Gamers With NX

Casual gamers are gamers that play casual games. I.E. Clash of Clans, Brain Age, Pokemon Go,and stuff like that. Games that you play for short sessions daily over periods of months or years.

"Hardcore gamer" is a pretentious term which certain gamers call themselves to sound special. Kind of like bloggers who call themselves "Social Media Rockstars," "Blogger in chief," or when fast food restaurants call their employees "Sandwich artists."
In other words, hardcore gaming/gamers is an imaginary fantasy label that certain gamers use to make themselves, and their video-games of choice, seem extra special. It's a bullshit term.

Hardcore gamer just means experienced gamer.

If you're going to say with a straight face there's no difference between the person who plays Clash of Clans for 40 minutes a week and the guy who can play Street Fighter, Elder Scrolls, GTA, and you can put Bloodborne in front of them and they can be off playing it with no problem in 30 seconds ... if you're saying there's no distinction between those audiences, that is more bullshit IMO.

There is an obvious difference, you don't need any special skill to eat a sandwhich, but you put Street Fighter V in front of a soccer mom/smartphone only gamer and most of them probably won't know how the hell to even play the game let alone enjoy it.

I never claimed Clash of Clans was the same type of game as a game like GTA (Or Elder Scrolls, Bloodborne, Bourne Identity, or whatever). I am saying that someone who declares "I'm a hardcore gamer! And my games are hardcore games!" because they play console games like GTA is blatantly pretentious.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

They can't afford another Wii U, they'll probably have to choose between a small but loyal user base or a bigger and more profitable audience offering less stability.
They can't really have both, I was hoping they learnt as much in the 8th gen.

We also had the casual crowd drop Nintendo as soon as the mobile scene exploded. Nintendo ended up giving up on that crowd and put their focus on the dedicated for some of the Wii U's span, now they want to work extra hard for some reason to gain back that casual crowd that dropped and stopped caring about them and yet they won't work all the way towards their loyal dedicated?, seems pretty fucked if you ask me.

Imo they should put their focus on their dedicated base, it'll never be as big as the mobile userbase but even then neither are the other bases but at least we have 3 consoles and PC userbases that can be dedicated and follow unlike the mobile crowd who drop one thing for another in the blink of an eye and quickly forget who crapped out the last Tetris like game.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Nintendo tried doing that with the WiiU and it didn't turn all that well. We'll see soon enough if that the NX will do better in that regard.

Nintendo has tried doing that since the NES. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. It all depends on marketing and deciding which type of software they want to put out in front to the public.

That's worrying.

The casual/hardcore divide is bullshit. Nintendo shouldn't use inaccurate rethoric like that.

Back when Nintendo made the Wii and were successful, they said that they wanted to appeal to everyone. Everyone!

Read the actual quote instead of the headline.

Oh... Guess I should have spent more time reading the OP, lol. Never mind, then. They said exactly what they should have said.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Isn't that what they said for the Wii U as well as the 3DS?

Let's hope the games and the NX back up what they are saying

Nintendo says they want to appeal to everybody

Idiots hear that Nintendo only want to appeal to casual gamers

Nintendo can either appeal  more to one or more to the other, but they can t appeal to both equally-   To state they are appealling to both is the same as not saying anything at all

Other than saying they want to appeal to both-  the only statemetns about the NX target market coming from Nintendo has said they want to target youth, families and more females -  Of course Reggie said "the blue ocean"    But saying both really tells us nothing

Aren't all three companies always looking for this?  It's like saying "Nintendo is looking to sell NX to as many humans  as possible".

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Pretty much a standard PR reply really., Every company wants to target everyone, Would be daft to come out and say we are just targeting specific group of people.
