No, noone's kid is going to laugh at them for telling their kid about technology from their time, that's just a dumb statement. In fact, I'm sure they'll find that interesting and pretty cool. The parents of these kids will probably keep their consoles and their kids will actually get the chance to use these "shoebox size video game consoles that they will laugh at their parents for having used" Also, since you seem to agree that there will be a PS5, and since you seem to think that there won't be a PS6, we are looking at around 2033 or 2034 for the end of the PS5's production, so maybe in about 30 years we will have kids who have no idea what a video game console is or was, let alone laugh at that ever being a concept.

That is, of course, if Sony or Nintendo truly do decide to stop making video game consoles, because if they don't, and continue making them, then we're looking at around 2050 for the concept of dedicated hardware to be "laughable" according to children of people who used to play on said dedicated hardware. And that's only if Sony decides to not make a PS7.

Console generations the way we know them are probably ending, but there will still be console generations after Xbox One and PS4 (imo)

The backpedaling has begun. It won't stop there. Slowly but surely the message will shift. But one day, suddenly, Scorpio will be the Microsoft next gen 4 years after the release of XB1, like X360 was next gen 4 years after the original Xbox.

People have to understand that they already had a generation that lasted only 4 years with the OG Xbox. Scorpio will also be released 4 years after XB1.

After an entire of year of sales I would hope more people are using it.

Seeing as you've put a lot of stock into your prediction of there being no more console generations, i think it's best to just tell you to prepare to be wrong

After watching the Microsoft E3 presentation (which was impressive) I came away thinking why bother with an XBox when you can just use a PC? If XBox exclusive IPs like Halo etc are on PC Windows 10 I can see the XBox brand dying in the arse. Now admittedly PCs are more expensive but if they're going to make cross platform online gaming standard between XBone and PC surely their user base will just migrate to PC.
With the runaway success of PS4 I think it's a good move. Is there really room for 3 consoles in todays market? With Nintendo doing things very differently and poised to release a great hybrid console, Microsoft moving towards PC gaming and Sony with a huge success of a home console I think the gaming industry will be very healthy indeed....

Pretty sure we will, but the line will be blurred. There will probably be PlayStation consoles that can be upgraded in the future, and one day in sure "PlayStation" will be more of an operating system...

But consoles aren't going to go away just because Microsoft missed winning three consecutive console generations.
