For most it was lowered expectation, but still there were a lot of people (we can say it's a minority, but still was a lot and sure it was vocal). I haven't put a number of people so how can we determine it was exagaration?

GT6 would sell less? Perhaps, Fifa and CoD are annual and they sell very high.

GT6 sold 1.6M from Oct-Dec of launch year. Let's make that 2M at USD60 (and that is considering the very wrong numbers of VGC on 3.21M total instead of 6M... so it could have been anywhere between 2 to 4M sold at full price)  Forza 5 sold 0.9M in the same window... so let's put it at around 1M at USD60.

So considering both have similar budget (3 years 100 people crew versus 1 year 300 people - yes it release every 2 years, but with 2 teams, and I don't have the updated team size for each on Turn 10, but before it was 300 people on 2 years) GT sold twice as much on the same budget.

I have no reason to think GT would drop to forza level of sales going from what it is to annual or biannual.

I take the 100 vs 300 crew with a grain of salt. Wikipedia now says 101-300 employees for Turn 10. We don't actually know how many people are working on these games, budgets, etc. But I would assume Forza needs more employees for more frequent and very different releases.

I'm not saying GT is going to drop to Forza levels. But Forza moves a ton of units in its annual strategy. So if you're gonna boast no other sim racer sold 5 million units. I'm gonna point out Forza moved well over 6 million physical units (likely millions more with digital) because its annual strategy.

No my "boasting" is that even though GT6 is the lowest selling mainline GT to date it still wasn't surpassed by a Forza in sales.

Both games are similar in scope, so it will be very hard to defend Forza is much cheaper to make considering they need a yearly output between Motorsport and Horizon.

considering GT6 came out After the PS4 on PS3 I'm shocked.. also that combined GT5 sold over 16million...

GTSport i imagine will end around.. 5million and if there is a GT7, that will be the beast

Actually walsufnir made that thread, and he is right here, right now.

Woops... well that's awkward...

Perhaps check before making such statements (I don't even remember that I made the thread though and won't check before tomorrow).

I think the reason is that 6 was just a repacked 5, from what I remember reading.

More like because it was a PS3 exclusive that came one month after the PS4 and XBO released.
I even saw people here, forum goers from a gaming website, putting GT6 on their predictions for PS4 exclusives games into conferences... lots of people didn't even knew GT6 was already released, as the focus was already completely on the PS4.

Even so it still pulled a 5M.

GT brand is damn strong.

Good explanation

Don't worry, here it is: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=207664

My memory is still pretty good.

Apparently Kerotan's not so much as many people in this thread are still active and only one is permabanned - and was the biggest GT fan on this site.

I dunno if ethomaz was the biggest fan, he was just quite vocal for his prefference for PS stuff.

DonFerrari, Svennoj and I are pretty big fans of the franchise.

Nah, he was easily the biggest. I can't remember how often I argued with him 😂

He defended the franchise so often and still does on GAF to this day (but I don't know if he is still banned there).

These were really good times on this site...

I more meant the general haters from back then.  most of them left since the Playstation domination returned.  the remaining few posters like yourself I'd class as genuine not haters who don't leave when their preferred systems fall behind.

The Forza sim games could be annual. They would just sell less DLC and save that for the next year. Forza 6 has a ton of DLC. But having a Forza sim and Horizon biannual is a better strategy, less fatigue for fans and more improvments.

Youre right, Forza hasnt surpassed GT in a single release. But Forza has moved a lot more units since the release of GT6. Its just a different strategy and probably more profitable for MS.

I think Sony wants more frequent releases of GT as well but their studio cant seem to get it done. They had to even refund people for GT Sport.

GT3 is still the high water mark for the series. They haven't released another game with that much of a tech leap since.
