Forums - Nintendo - NX Mock-Up Thread (UPDATED: New Awesome Mock-Ups!)

That IS a nice mock up, but the more I think about it the more concerned I get over how it will perform... Rol brought up some valid criticism against coupeling Nintendo games together with free Android apps...

I think Nintendo honestly about 2-3 years ago made the decision internally that they cannot compete with mobile and instead needed to embrace mobile.

I think seeing 3DS sales erode away in the US and Europe to like 1/3 of the DS pretty much sealed it.

From that decision is where Pokemon Go, the DeNA deal, and NX all stem from ... they all started in development around this same time. I think Miyamoto was basically shut out of this decision and they threw him a bone by saying "go make some Wii U games that use the tablet pad" and Star Fox, Project Guard, Project Giant Robot is basically what he came up with (which predictably failed).

"Free" Android games still stand to make Nintendo a lot of money when they're taking home a 30% cut of all the revenue generated by said games.

That looks better than I thought.

Looks more like a smartphone though. Might as well give it the features needed to make it a phone.

now scratch all that and make it look like a kid's toy... boom... that's how Nintendo will make it look like in the end :)

It already does look like a kids toy, to include a very slim design, and short length of the controllers. It looks like only people with baby hands will be able to play NX comfortably.

It doesn't all that bad to be honest. I still wonder if this thing would actually sell well enough though.

Yup. I imagine the real deal looking like the above, but with Fisher price style design with lots of grey and red.

My cat was sleeping on my lap and I ended up spitting out tea all over her. She has a proper WTF look on her face >.<

That looks very believable.

It's going to be a tablet, not a phone.

Surprising that this thread has quite a few positive responses, considering that NX in this form would be a portable Wii U Gamepad with inferior ergonomy when played at home. The most baffling thing is that Nintendo would go with such a weird design and then have the docking station ruin any hopes for backwards compatibility with Wii U software, because the screen needs to sit in the docking station.

This mockup visualizes why the Eurogamer rumor is so bad. Just like the "leaked" NX controller from a few months ago, the creator of the rumor thinks that Nintendo won't stray off far from what the Wii U was. NX is basically all about selling a "better" version of Wii U.

We dont need that though, the software didnt sell the Wii U. That software wont sell the NX either.

People like Nintendo handhelds. People like Nintendo software. People would like a Nintendo home console with smart design and high output of software, both 1st party and 3rd party. People would also like a Nintendo home console which they can justify having next to their existing PS4/X1/PC. This concept addresses a lot of those points.

I used to want the NX to be a dedicated, high end console but once Neo and Scorpio were announced I knew there was no real room for Nintendo to do the same. They could but I don't think it would result in a big win for them. Looking at Breadth of the Wild, I realised I really just want to enjoy Nintendo games and I think this is the most convenient and effective way to ensure a healthy software cycle and it offers us a bloody powerful handheld with a full scale HD/console pokemon RPG becoming a reality.

The software failed to sell the Wii U because the hardware was so bad (not refering to processing power here). And yes, software (Wii U or NX) won't sell this supposed NX either, because the hardware is once again so bad.

If you believe that then why would you want backwards compability?
