Forums - Gaming - Eurogamer: Nintendo NX is a portable console with detachable controllers (It also connects to your TV, and runs cartridges)

This would be a heck of a lot more plausible if not for Pokemon Sun and Moon. That's the big holiday earner for Nintendo and I absolutelu do not see them destroying the hype by announcing that the 3DS successor is coming out mere months after Sun and Moon. Not that it wouls make Pokemon fail but certainly underperform. Also, this implies the whole "full scale experiences on the go" shtick which I find highly unlikely given A) their cheif competitor did that and failed miserably and 2) Nintendo has in the past and continues today to emphasize that handheld and console experiences are and should be different, designed from the ground up for their respective platforms. Disagree with the idea if you want but Nintendo has stuck to that pretty firmly.

Also, Nintendo's limited words have been alludijg to a home console focused device, not a handheld. Also, this is like the tenth or so "highly reliable rumor" we've seen? Most of them conflicting each other?

In short, nothing to see here. Just another NX rumor, move along.

they have a better chance to compete with them than competing with iOS and andriod

That's not saying much though. Those who play games like CoD and Witcher would never touch a Nintendo console, so there would be no point in Nintendo trying to compete with Sony and MS.

Yeah, besides that would be the epitome of throwing good money after bad. Entering a self-destructive arms race with Sony and Microsoft, and handing the keys to the kingdom - so to speak - to third parties is a recipe for disaster.

About the Tegra X1 that is rumored here as the chip that the NX uses, It is rated at 512 Gigaflops. But they are Nvidia flops which apparently are more powerful than AMDs. The CPU is an 8-core 64bit ARM cpu.

Better be the new Tegra using pascal or this thing will flop. The X1 is very weak for a console, but then again Nintendo are no longer making consoles.

I´m out. The only thing I didn´t want was a hybrid.
Hopefully 2nd screen is optional since there´s a dock. I´d be very happy if they make a home console only version down the line.

eehhhh, I'm not so certain about this

My 3DS is pretty much dead to me, I just can't stand a small screen anymore

That's quite a generalization, games like Zelda or Metroid can appeal to those people too.

The only Zelda games that appeal to those who play Skyrim and such are Breath of the Wild and maybe Twilight Princess. Metroid is too "hardcore" for the average gamer who only plays Call of Duty and such. The lack of online multiplayer is also a huge turnoff.

The only worrying part is the Nvidia Tegra news..... I have my doubts about how powerfull that will make the system.

Also the price.... Nintendo arnt always smart when they negociate prices for components (wii u gamepad), and Nvidia dont give nearly as sweet deals as AMD does.

I had hoped nintendo has just gotten AMD to make a ARM+GCN apu for them... them just useing old nvidia tech... Im not sure its the right way to go.

That said I love the concept of a handheld hybrid home console.

Not sure how I feel about this.

Guess we'll have to see how this plays out...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I like the idea of hybrid portability and home use myself. There are a lot of handheld games I'd like to play on a TV screen. I even got a Vita TV so I could play Tales of Hearts, Trails of Cold Steel, and Ys: Memories of Celceta on my TV screen.

Game boy color sized cartridges?

That's an illustration of how believable the rumor is.

Ha. Ok, you win. But even more funny will be to see how many people wont realize that is just a shopped gameboy cartridge.
