Or maybe Wii owners aren't selling their games as quickly as PS360 users are (or at all). I believe this to be true, and it's because they are not in a rush to buy a new release on release week, they get them when they have time to play a new game or when they finished the last one. This is shown by consistant legs. One reason Wii owners might hold onto games longer is because a good number of (though not all) Wii owners don't sit down for 5 hours and play, but pick up and play a game (Wii Sports/Wii Play/PES2008), a level (SMG/RE:UC), a battle(Brawl) and thus they wouldn't get a game and be done with it in 2 or 3 weeks. As for games like RE4 & LOZ:TP, well we know the wii has a good number of casual users. In my saying that, I'm not saying they don't like hardcore games. I think they are casual in they like to pick up and play a game for a short time, and continue it or play another one later. It would take this type of casual player much longer to complete these games, hence there would be less of them available used at any given time. Add into this the supply constraint factor, and the fact that new Wii owners probably already have quite a few of the games on the list at the start of this thread on their short list, the legs just make sense. Every time a store gets Wii's, it seems like the purchaser purchaes a handful of games as well (ie: a Wii, Wii Play fora controller, and SMG). And these legs will continue for a long time to come. |
While there's been many good observations here, I agree particularly with this one as that's my experience. Not including games my son has bought for the Wii (he's harcore), for all the games I bought for myself, I've yet to finish a single game. Some (Tiger Woods) I'll never have time to finish the career mode, ever. Other's I will eventually (I hope) but I'm a casual player and rarely play for long. Because of that, some games (RE4) don't get played much because I don't have time to finish a level, and therefore remain unfinished.
Also, when I do finish I probably won't sell them, as I'll want to play them again at some point. So yeah, while my son has traded in quite a few of his Wii games, I have not and probably won't (unless I dislike a game). So fewer trade ins mean more new game sales IE: better legs.
Also Casual players generally don't follow the VG news, don't know what's coming out and only see new games whenever they go looking in the store for something new. We definately see this as Wii titles generally have lower initial sales but better legs than PS360 counterparts.
