I don't know. It's on gamerankings top 20 list of all time. People are also buying games off the virtual console in droves.
I think what you'll find is, that to most people, a good game is simply a good game, no matter what generation it was released.
Sure the graphics and sound may be off a little, but the core gameplay doesn't change and that's all that matters.
