The fact that you even listed COD and GTA shows that you don't understand what's going on here. They aren't even in the same league as Pokemon. Lol.

I think you don't understand GTA V. You do realize it sold upwards of 50 million copies right? Pokemon Go is absolutely massive and awesome and all that, but you are not giving GTA V its due credit.

Lol. I don't have a response to this. They aren't in the same league. Lol.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

And GTA V has sold more on PS3 and Xbox 360 each than Pokemon games have sold this gen on one platform, despite consumers also buying it on other platforms and that eating the sales on these platforms.

GTA V also costs $60 while Pokemon is $40.

I think you are confused here.....Because GTA V has sold more than Pokemon this gen it doesn't make it BIGGER than Pokemon....Pokemon goes FAR beyond video game sales and I think that is where you are missing the mark.  When you have the games, shows, movies, toys, clothing etc WORLDWIDE GTA is not even CLOSE to Pokemon hence the reason Pokemon is a CULTURAL PHENOMENON while GTA is just popular.

GTA is a cultural phenmenon in how it changed the way people look at games, gamers and non gamers alike. Its popular among both groups, and it hasn't just outsold Pokemon since this gen, but since sixth gen. Its become even bigger this gen but it was more popular than Pokemon games since GTA 3.

Pokemon is a very popular anime series but overall it is comparable to what GTA is in gaming.

GTA is a cultural phenomenon also. A whole genre of games are based off of it.

I didn't know about them but looking at them, one is a paid app and neither have what really sells COD, the FPS gameplay and multiplayer.

That furthers my point.  You didn't even know they existed.  But you damn sure know Pokemon Go exists.

Let's also not forget that Call of Duty is a 3rd party game to begin with.  This whole thread is asking about Sony and Microsoft IPs.

They didn't get media attention doesn't mean the series can't do better on phones. It needs the right kind of game to do that which Pokemon Go is to Pokemon on phones.

I never mentioned Call of Duty before my reply to you. I mentioned GTA, which was being discussed by many other users so I put my views on that.

Again, of course it sold more on PS3 and 360 each, they had a much larger install base compared to Pokemon on 3DS.

And about prices, it's true that Pokemon is $40, but it also pretty much stays at $40. The price of GTA V has gone down since it's original price tag of $60.

Install base doesn't automatically lead to sales, people buy consoles to play GTA games and they have to be interested enough in a game to buy it.

GTA V has also sold more on PS4 than Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby despite the PS4 having a smaller install base than 3DS.

And people buy hanhelds for Pokemon games

And wow that cherry picking. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes, the new gen Pokemon games on 3DS have sold more

No what you said is cherry picking.

I knew you would bring that up, but GTA V on PS4 was a year old port of the game with less changes to the original than Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby which were full remakes.

Its not a new gen GTA game and a late port but has sold close to a new gen Pokemon game.

You know what I can agree with this. GTA is that for gaming. It just isn't as big as Pokemon is. Which is fine, it takes nothing away from GTA saying it is not big as Pokemon is after all.

I agree with this when out in this aspect. But just don't feel that GTA is as big as Pokemon worldwide and beyond gaming.

I'm just going to end this here because I don't want to derail the thread any further since it's about Sony/Microsoft first party, but GTA V was still only 1 year old when it came out on PS4, and it also had the benefit of coming out one year before Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. And yes, Pokemon X and Y also came out one year before GTA V on PS4, but they didn't release for the holiday, and it had Zelda one month later that did release for the holiday.

I dont think so, maybe Microsoft with MInecraft, but Sony has no chance. They usually make very forgetable products that they outstanding ability at hyping them is what makes them sell.

Sony and MS make phones.

Any reason they haven't developed a viral phenomena of a game to go with them?

The same reason Nintendo hasn't I would assume :-/ heck I don't kno.w
