I have to go with Nintendo. Have to buy a console just for 1st party games, dlc behind platic doll and, endless sequels. Activision with COD comes at close second.

LOL at people saying Nintendo milks consumers by staying in the console business. Seriously guys?
I think Activision milks people more than others. Twelve consecutive years of COD (though IW looks better than past games). Six consecutive years of Skylanders. They ran Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk's skating games into the ground. Destiny gets HUGE expansions that cost almost as much as the game itself. To top this all off, their CEO doesn't like franchises that "don't have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million dollar franchises". He likes games that "we know that if we release them today, we'll be working on them ten years from now".

Activision. Their supply drop system is absolutely insane. Not even season pass owners get access to new weapons and specialists.

Nintendo. Amiibos can get expensive, Nintendo games never go on sale or they print limited quantities making some titles prematurely rare. Online sales are few and far between. Quality exclusives are also at rare status so your console investment stays dark most of a generation.
Blizzard, Activision, EA, Ubisoft
all could be number one

Nintendo is ripe for criticism in a number of areas: DLC, season passes, locking content behind Amiibo, etc. But I'm not sure you can make a convincing case that selling dedicated hardware is milking, especially when something like WiiU supports over 700 games, over 300 of which are multiplatform. That's not a plastic box that plays Nintendo games only. |
I'll have to say I agree with you. Nintendo does do some questionable things, as does any of the Big 3, but Nintendo isn't the worst. I do hate their stubborness to allow the prices of their games to be dropped at retail, even after years of being out, when other publishers allow them to be $15-$20 a year or two after they release. And while they are normally good about dropping the price of their HW, they have dropped the ball with the Wii U.
I'd say Sony and Nintendo are about equal in being fair to the consumer, while MS, especially last gen, like to milk their consumers as much as possible. Putting features that never should be behind a paywall, behind a paywall, like Internet browsing and Netflix. Charging crazy prices for low capacity HDDs that HAD to be bought from them. Charging a crazy price for a wireless adaptor, just so consumers could use WiFi. Giving nothing back to gamers for purchasing Live Gold. At the beginning of his gen, forcing people to buy the Kinect at launch if they wanted a XBO and not allowing them to freely trade and share their games. This gen, Sony basically forced them to be more consumer friendly due to the large lead they created.
I'd say Nintendo too and their arguably one of the most overlooked out of the obvious offenders ...
Game prices never dropping sucks, they have the worst DLC practices imaginable with amiibo, they try to monetize their IPs very aggressively but what sucks more is having to invest in their consoles since it often doesn't pay off with the support that it gets throughout it's life and especially at the end of it's life when Nintendo is known for dropping platforms like a rock on top of a cliff once their new hardware is out ...
I honestly believe that vivster is on to something ...
