I still think that NX means Nintendo Crossover. Basically their home console and their handheld will be crossing each other in a significant way. That might not mean it would be available in March 2017 but I could still see it happening.

Since the Pokémon Sun/Moon fever will probably be huge, I think they will be Ok with 3DS for 2017, so... Maybe early 2018?

I really believe in the shared library thing. So it would be natural to release the handheld part simultaneously with the home consol or at the latest, holidays 2017.
What surprises me is the decent amount of support the 3ds still gets. My guess is Nintendo uses it as the system they can fall back on if the whole NX plan fails. I think it will at least get new games until and including holidays 2017, even if a new handheld has launched.

OT: I think late 2017 at the latest.

I keep thinking that the handheld won't release right after the NX, but forgot that the 3DS has been out for quite some time now so yes, 2017 does seem reasonable

There are probably not that many who want Sun/Moon and don't already have a 3DS, and I doubt any system can get through a whole year just fine without any new game releases.
