What do you think about announcements?

Announce asap (2y+) 4 12.12%

With 1 year to come 12 36.36%

With less than 1 year 17 51.52%

Total:33

You don't need to launch the game exactly the same year you announce it, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, still need to make people interested in their consoles so they need to tell what is their future plans otherwise we would have more threads Like Microsoft's "14 Games in development" thread.

It is better for a game when the game isn't coming too soon or too later, people will know in what they will spend their money.

People seems to be taking it too serious using a game like Final Fantasy XV as a example, The developers had to change the entire game so this game is a exception and not a rule.

Your theory is invalidated by the fact that the Horizon trailer released 1 week before E3 has 6.7M views.

Oh my god I love Hype: The Time Quest.

Yeah, showing your games or talking about them asap of course have its purpose, being a selling point to your system is a very good one, but yet, that should only happen close to a new system launch, when it's already out there and people are getting it, there is not that much need to show it so soon, it'll generate a lot of attention, but that ends up being wasted in the go while people wait to actually get them.

I want to know where would be Nintendo now if they had not announced Zelda years before launch ?.

Announcing games before launch isn't a bad thing and I'm surprised that majority of people prefer a game releasing In less than 1 year for a event that  is held in the beggining of the 2 half of the Year, People need to know what expect and they need to know that you isn't dead and the ones who don't have a console will look to the future releases and purchase the console.

The statement that Phill Spencer made about games's release dates should not be take so serious, he was just protecting the Xbox Brand and he wasn't saying that those kind of Announcements are bad, this was his only defense against Sony's announcements.

I don't really think when a game is announced has much effect on the sales of a game. If a game is bad its, its just bad. Practically speaking most people buy games based commercials, going to best buy or Walmart and finding a game on the shelf, or in the case of some sports and FPS games that are yearly anyway.

But Zelda is a release title for their new system, as I said, it's a good move to keep people interested to get to your new system.

The thing about Spin Spencer and his statement has nothing to do with the thread, though XP

The game wasn't their launch tittle when it was announced. This thread only exist because of Phill Spencer's statement being it intentional or not, everyone is downplaying Sony because of the Release dates only because of Phill Spencer's  statement, we already had several threads regarding his statement.

Not really, if you really want the game you are gonna buy it, period. There are so many leaks anyway its almost moot.

That's not exactly true, there are lots, lots of games out there you would want to buy you just don't know, or that people were once excited about and aren't anymore, which they would buy before but won't now, at least not at launch.
The key is getting people to want what you have and making them be able to get it while they still want it, as I said, pre-orders are quite a help on that, but I still believe letting to show your game when it's about to come (less than one year) would make more people buy them, at least at launch, lasting appeal is another story.

fair enough, but its not like the release date changes. GOW4 for example not coming till next year. Whether there was a e3 trailer this year or not it still isnt changing the fact that we wont get it till next year. If there was no trailer you would've been more excited? less? same?

I think lasting appeal goes hand in hand with overall sales.

I think Ninty would be in the same or worse position. Imagine them not mentioning Zelda at all? Hell I would imagine that there would be less Wii Us sold as people who want it for Zelda would have came to the conclussion they werent getting one.

The future of gaming could also be new games coming that year.
