Forums - Gaming - IGN reviews GT5 Prologue

Yes you're right, ghosting eliminates a lot, perhaps most importantly the skill of executing a clean overtake, which is obviously a significant part of racing irl. Ranking matches sounds a good way of getting around the problem. Here's hoping for something comparable in GT5 proper (although for me the lack of it won't be a game breaker).

I really hope they shore up this aspect of the game in the full release because, unlike you, it's a game-breaker for me. Most of the enjoyment I get out of racers now is online and if that segment of the game is broken, I won't buy it. I really only play the single-player to learn tracks and unlock cars for the online segment.

8.3 is a great score. I think they marked it lower because its a prologue rather than the full GT game. It would be hard to justify giving a GT prologue above a 9, when you know how big the real game is going to be.

It's hard justifying 8.3 when comparing to the competition. Theres alot to be addressed for the full release.

I must say I don't really get the deal with this demo/prologue thing. If Nintendo went and released a Super Mario Preview thing for $30 that let you run around and get the first 15 stars and maybe fight the first boss or two you'd all be up in arms over how Nintendo is milking its fans.

Never mind that other than updated visuals it doesn't really seem much different from the previous games, at least so far.

Gran Turismo is not a great game. It's as simple as that.

Your acting is not that great either, simple as that.

On topic: GT5 will get a 9.5 at the lowest.

Leo read my thread. Play it and be honest. If GT5 is like GT5P(which I played full version today) it wont be amazing it will only be good.

The game not having damage is a big mistake.

Yea, that's why the series has sold over 40 million copies, with never having damage.

Part of the reason it sells so well is it has 500 real world cars. The reason it has 500 cars, is because of no damage. Car manufacturers like it that way.

I would like damage, but to tell someone with such wild success that they are doing something wrong is just... well.. when you make a game with over a million pre-orders, go ahead and bitch about this one.

The problem is Forza 2.

And all 40 million were sold before online gaming became mainstream on Playstation. Mario games also used to be in 2D and they sold like hotcakes. I guess Mario 64 was a waste of Nintendo's time, then. And Halo 2's online system was a waste of time because Halo: Combat Evolved sold so well.

Don't give me that 500 car BS. Forza 2 has almost 300 and every one of them features damage. None of the manufacturers seem to hassle Turn 10 about it and Turn 10 has Porsche, Lamborghini, and a few other manufacturers not in the Gran Turismo series.

Times change. Full-fledged racing sims without damage and a great online system are unacceptable now. I expect better because I've played better.

The reason Forza and other racers with real world cars were able to put damage into their games is because of the success of GT. When GT was first being made and they wanted all these real world cars in there, car companies didn't want their cars to be shown in a negative light (as in breaking down in a game). With GT's success, other developers were able to leverage damage into the game while Sony was probably stuck under a contract to not allow it in.

As for why it isn't in the prologue, probably because they are selling it online and want to reduce the size of the game. think about it, 75 cars with damage code would greatly increase the size of the file, and to make sure damage works right since it would be the first time that the devs have put it in the game.
