Forums - Nintendo - The Wii-Mote > Then and now

What was your first reaction/impression when you first saw or heard about the concept for the Wii-mote?  I'm talking of course of way back when Nintendo's next system codenamed the "Revolution" was first announced.

How does that compare to your reaction when you first held, played, and used the Wii-mote?  Was the reaction the same or different.

I go first.  I first saw the Revolution concept in a Game Informer magazine.  I was floored, shocked, stuned, ect., but at the same time very exciting for this new direction.  I could not wait to try it, and the wii became the only system so far that I purchased at launch.

After, I was not dissapointed, and I continue to be amazed at the new gameplay experiences.  I enjoyed having people over, and saying, "Hey you have to try this game (Wii Sports, of course).

I´m very excited, is a very good chance in videogames.

My initial reaction was largely "That's a great idea, I'm surprised nobody came up with it before." Which is when I remembered the Zapper, Power Glove, and NES gamepad, which is what the Wiimote is basically a modern combination of.

When Sony announced SIXAXIS, I spotted the problem immediately: a standard controller is not suited to a motion-sensing system that's easiest to utilize one-handed. I thought up ways that Sony might fix this, but realized that it was futile. This coincided nicely with their disasterous E3 2006 presentation, and shifted my attention away from Sony and onto Nintendo.

As it stands now, I see the Wii Remote as just as brilliant as it was when it was introduced. If anything, it's even more brilliant, as developers slowly but surely realize what a single-handed motion-sensing pointer-enabled controller really means for games: a step further into immersion, a step forward in control, a step away from abstraction.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I was really excited (before Wii launch), I couldn't offer one nor could I offer to stand in line for days to get one.

But after I played Wiisport, I was pretty disappointed, Baseball game without defense, Tennis without running. Maybe I was expecting too much, but Wii's motion sensor did not live up to my expectation.

I will still probably get it for MK, but I no longer have too high an expectation for motion sensor this gen.

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I remember working at Best Buy when the PS3 and Wii came out and thinking the wii was some side show and the big deal was the PS3...how wrong i was!

I like the wii mote for social games but i think it sucks for most games. The best game on wii (ssbb) does not even use it but uses game cube controls and that is a disapointment because SSBB is not a next gen game and I think some really cool stuff could have been done if they had developed it for the wii mote instead.

Regular games like COD3 suck with the wii mote...so anyway i think the controller has a lot of potential but some issues as well.

When I first saw it announced, I was amazed. This thing was brilliant and was going to revolutionize the gaming world.

When I got my Wii a year ago and played WiiSports. I thought this is a cool demo of things to come, I can't wait until the stuff that really takes advantage of this technology is here.

Now, after a year of playing games that gain little to nothing from the Wiimote and could have just been done with a normal controller (and often have options for that). I've decided that we won't see the true potential of this type of controller until the Wii2/PS4/X-Box3 generation. I'm also constantly annoyed at how crappy the Wii looks after spending anytime with my 360 and PS3.

So the Wii ends up being something I only play for an occasional exclusive triple-A title like Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. While I primarily buy games for my PS3 and 360.

I was amazed by it. That is why I got my wii first. THe only problem I have with it is that most games don't utilize its full functionality. Such as 1:1 for sword games, or shooters. The only games I've been truly impressed by , are MP3, and MoHH2. Hopefully these lackluster controls will be fixed.

When I first heard about out, I thought it was a little odd. I didn't see how it would work out properly. I thought it'd be like one of those TV game kinda things. Then I saw wii sports and I was so pumped up for it, and since May 07 I've had the pleasure of owning one. And I believe it'll become my most favorite console ever (n64 currently owns this spot).

My initial reaction when I first heard the announcement was "YESSS! Now THIS is where it is AT! FINALLY!"

When I actually got the Wiimote and nunchuk, it became clear that there was still a ways to go before it became the perfect controller, but it still felt comfy and not overly complicated.

It's sorta like dating the perfect woman, and then marrying the perfect woman. At first you think "Wow, she has no flaws whatsoever!" and then after marriage it's "Yeah, she's got flaws, but nothing so critical that it will ruin the marriage. We'll be able to work through it together, and in the meantime, I know I've got someone I can count on, and I know how she'll respond to me."

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

When I first read about it, I thought it was terrible. But when I actually saw it being used, I did a 180 and changed my mind completely.

That's when I invested in Nintendo. Those shares are now worth over triple now.
