The consumer will be hard pressed to upgrade in mass to this new product. Honestly the next progression for TV really is making it do more, not look better at this stage. Hence I believe Smart TVs are taking off for the last couple of years.

What is funny is that just buying a "dumb" TV and either using a blu ray player or streaming stick makes it into a "smart" TV for the most part (besides maybe surfing the internet which is slow and pointless on a TV anyways).  "Smart" TVs are a rip off if you ask me.

It is far more easier to just have one device do it all. If the Smart TV is costing way too much, it is a rip off. Everything has to do with related value.

Regular TV + 50 dollar streaming device or 100-120 blu ray that has Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc is a lot cheaper than most Smart TV offers.  Blu ray player is the way to go because you can stream and watch dvd/blu rays.  I use my Wii U though for streaming because it is faster and better at streaming apps.  There were recent reports that they want to use Smart TV to beam in ads onto your TV while viewing streaming apps.

Personally, I see no benefit but perhaps some people might.

Well if you are going to judge 4k at least ask the store owner to hook up an HDR t (or non HDR 4k tv) Panasonic UB900 ultra hd blu ray player. While playing the revenant which is shot in 4k and compare that with an 1080p TV hooked up to a blu ray player that plays the normal blu ray of the revenant. If you still can't see the difference UHD might not be for you, but don't judge 4k just because you didn't see it at it's full potential.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'll tell you what's a real scam. That is Ultra HD Blu-Ray. While it will be good for older analog movies and the newest movies that are actually being filmed in 4k and 8k, it will be absolutely meaningless for most movies that have been released over the last 15 years. Sure, they can be upscaled but it will be impossible to watch something like the Avengers in a true 4k format. So, if you see that movie available on that format and it says Ultra HD, they're lying to you.

Have smart tv with a quad core processor, so it's really fast. I've used it mostly for crunchyroll, but they don't support smart tv's anymore, so it's only purpose is youtube. I really enjoy this feature. Whenever I feel lime it I can just throw the video from my smartphone on the tv in a few seconds.

I sell TVs for a living. There's a difference.

The Real thing right now, though, is HDR. Roughly 93% more color.

I think the OP and the agenda has been exposed so we should leave it there.

4K is a massive leap. There is no debate.

What agenda? can you take that nonsense outta this thread? Jesus, can't we just have a simple discussuon without it devolving into some fanboy crap?

The OP is a scammer. If you can't see 4k or see 60 fps or higher, you should go get some eyeglasses.

Agreed, it's completely overhyped, as is the race for higher resolution in general.
