Forums - Microsoft - Is Phil Spencer a Hypocrite?

Tmfwang said:

Now, most of you probably remember when the rumours about an upgraded PS4 started circulating, and Phil Spencer took the word quite fast that he did not support mid-gen upgrades because it splits the focus of the developers/consumers...

Then MS had their E3, good ol Phil came out on stage and announced the Xbox Scorpio, and he couldnt be more excited....

This just seems so hypocritical to me, first he downplays the rumors of a mid-gen upgraded PS4, then he proceeds to do the same thing with the Xbox. My respect for him was severly injured when he did this, thoughts?

Considering the specs of the Scorpio, this is more like a completely new console than a simple upgrade and he did say that if they are to do something, it should be substantial, which the Scorpio cetrainly is.

So yes, he is hypocritical around a lot of things, as is every executive, but not as hypocritical as he could be in this case.

He's a very public MS mouthpiece, and he's good at his job. (I would be questioning the 26b MS spent on acquiring linkedin before I ever wondered about any Phil inconsistencies)

And slim versions don't count as they've always been around and no difference in power.

I'm defending the Phil here, hes made many untrue and hypocritical comments in the past but this is not one of them, the sounding of Scorpio smacks around the original Xbone.

we've been hearing that this slim version has more power and gears of war 4 will take advantage of it?

It will be the most miniscule difference, but I suppose we'll wait for digital foundry for the verdict on that. But Spencer himself said it's not going to do anything for you unless you have a 4k TV.

Yes he lied, they were probably already deep in the planning stage when he said that.

How exactly did he lie? He never said he is against a 4-5x stronger mid-gen upgrade. He only said he wants a big jump and it clearly is one. He probaly meant he doesn't want a 2x jump or something like that because that would be not good in his opinion.

Spencer does say some weird stuff sometimes but this is absolutely not one of them.

For me he have been like that since he assumed the position or even before. So no surprise here. He'll say what he thinks his audience wants to hear and buy more of his product.

He's a pr guy. He likes getting paid lots of money. There's no integrity in his job at ms. People need to stop believing him and praising him like he's some sort of hero.

For the money he gets I'd lie all the time too or pretend to be the good guy.

Like sony and ninty pr guys...

Can't we leave that out of this thread? This thread is about phil spencer not sony or nintendo.

It will not be miniscule in look and feel, perhaps in performance (maybe slightly steadier frame rate).  HDR definitely makes a difference. Quite a big difference.  Not sure if DF look at that?

It will only look different if you have a HDR 4K tv. DF always talk about image quality aswell as resolution as they are 2 seperate things.

The feel only changes if performance increases, which if it did I'm sure Microsoft would be the first to mention it. Gears developers said if there is a boost it'll be slightly framerate wise in hectic sections of the game, so basically dipping to 27 instead of 25. Obviously that's me throwing numbers but there is nothing at all to suggest a performance boost. And they'd be silly to do so.

He is a liar...

Didn't this guy also say that VR wasn't a thing or something like that pretty much downplaying VR. Now he's all in lol.
