Welp we've still had plenty of other Zelda threads getting made so this one is also a faliure like the official NX thread. All bark and no bite.

And you have to do it damn well to get the incredible reaction they are getting while almost butchering every convention of the series.

That's the key difference between the change-ups in Zelda and Paper Mario, the game is actually good still, the only thing thing that really matters.

This is the second time today I've seen you go out of your way to bring it up Colour Splash in a thread that has nothing to do with it. XD

Sorry I can't be bothered to cut that down to just the relevant five seconds but incidentally, the rant that starts at 2:41:51 is deliciously good to listen to :P

Ok, back on topic.  About that Zelda.  xD

Don't forget Splatoon though, that was highly original and right for the times, In fact I could argue that it is actually more purely innovative than this Zelda, however this does looks like the best thing they have done since Mario Galaxy or even OoT, as a reinvention it is as epic as you could expect from Nintendo.

My bad, I did overlook Splatoon, but while that game was certainly fresh and original, (not to mention excellent) I feel like BotW is even more impressive because of how ambitious it is and the daring liberties it takes with a franchise that's not only 30 years old but has such a large and passionate fan following. It takes guts to reinvent a series whose traditional form is held in almost religious regard.

After Splatoon and Zelda, now we know they will do something totally different with Mario also. It become very obvious that there change of generations in Nintendo currently, new young developers with fresh and different perspective coming at stage while old ones go retirement.

It's looking encouraging likely that they're finally starting to learn to take risks again. Honestly, the retirement of the old guard at Nintendo and the rise of the next generation of young devs needs to happen ASAP. Splatoon shows the promise of Nintendo's up and coming, but a lot about the Wii U also speaks to how out of touch the old guys have become. Hopefully Breath of the Wild and Splatoon are indicative of Nintendo's direction moving forward.

Splatoon is product of Nintendo Garage program, don't forget they said they having more projects from Nintendo Garage.

Ugh! I need to get used to saying Wild not Wind!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Breath of the Wild looks like it might just be the most forward thinking game that Nintendo have made since... shit, possibly since Mario Galaxy.

Don't get me wrong, they've made many great games since then, but they've almost all been rather traditional, relying on a tried and true formula. This on the other hand feels almost like how Mario 64 felt in 1996, a bold and unbridled reinvention. It's so refreshing to see them take such a big risk with such an old and revered series.

I totally agree with you're saying; taking Zelda, throwing out so much of the old stuff and replacing that, it takes guts! It's very forward thinking, but lets not forget that Zelda (and Nintendo) is playing catch up right now. A lot of the mechanincs we've seen before, in games like Skyrim and Far Cry, so this is nothing new. However, true to themselves, Nintendo has really put a spinn on them! Climbing ads a new dimension so exploration, throwing swords is a cool idea, and I love that hunting finally means something!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I'll be honest to me it still looks like a basic Zelda game to me, just with a much larger world and perhaps the influence of games like Far Cry/Skyrim, which is to be expected because the Wii U is so much better tech wise than the GameCube/Wii.

Remember the Zelda series hasn't really had a generational leap in processing power since 2003 with Wind Waker really, that's like 13 years ago (!) now.

Don't get me wrong it looks good, but it looks more like they are catching up to where the rest of the industry has been for a while.

I'll be impressed if the more sci-fi-ey theme at the beginning actually factors into the game and its environments (as in you can travel into a tech-filled future). *That* would pretty bold for the Zelda series.
