Don't forget Splatoon though, that was highly original and right for the times, In fact I could argue that it is actually more purely innovative than this Zelda, however this does looks like the best thing they have done since Mario Galaxy or even OoT, as a reinvention it is as epic as you could expect from Nintendo.

My bad, I did overlook Splatoon, but while that game was certainly fresh and original, (not to mention excellent) I feel like BotW is even more impressive because of how ambitious it is and the daring liberties it takes with a franchise that's not only 30 years old but has such a large and passionate fan following. It takes guts to reinvent a series whose traditional form is held in almost religious regard.

After Splatoon and Zelda, now we know they will do something totally different with Mario also. It become very obvious that there change of generations in Nintendo currently, new young developers with fresh and different perspective coming at stage while old ones go retirement.
