It looks to me the new Zelda will indeed be offering a lot of variety to the game. They just mentioned there will be "shrines" which are separate from the dungeons, and that there are over 100 shrines in the game (which can be puzzle focused or combat focused, or w/e). There's also the fact that these are like demo versions as well, I think. The full game might have even more things to do in the world than the version playable. Even as it is, it looks pretty decent. |
That actually sounds pretty darn nifty. Giving people a reason to explore an open world is something that took developers awhile to figure out when this trend first started. Altering your course when you stumble over something interesting is part of the fun. Honestly, joining Zelda elements to the best open world elements is an enticing prospect if done right.
I've only seen the trailer so I hope there is a good treehouse summary somewhere later.

I love the blatant Princess Mononoke influences on the world. It looks like a playable Ghibli Movie. Wich means I'll love it.
Also, they weren't kidding around when they said it would have more western influences. It looks very Witcher-esque. My only hope is that the npcs feel equally alive and relevant in Breath of the Wild as they did in Witcher. The total lack of any NPC presence was pretty much the only thing worrying me about the trailer.
(I haven't watched anything beyond the trailer yet, because work and avoiding Spoilers.)
I hope they don't spend too much ephasis on building stuff, though. I like the crafting, but I don't need minecraft injected into every single one of my games.
The 3D Zelda's have never quite clicked for me. I think it may be the control scheme, but whatever it is it has stopped me from really getting into it. This seems like a big improvement in that regard. I like the addition of stuff like weapon durability and the fast pace of loot. It definitely seems more westernised this time around.
I like the art style, and I can't wait to see how it looks on NX.
I agree that it still feels unnecessarily spread out right now. In the stream, they keep saying that wherever you go you find something, but apples on trees is not something I would consider a worthy reward for 'exploring' another area. I will hold judgement though, considering this is the opening area and there seems to be a lot happening in the distance. I hope they show a town soon.
Looks really good so far, but I can't help compare it to other, similar games. It looks better than Scalebound, but not as good as Horizon or The Witcher. But whatever, I get them all anyway, can't wait to see more.
Yeah... it looks good. But better then the rest of E3 combined? Really? Re-imagining everything? Seriously? I think RE7 was far more surprising from this point of view. People can get carried away pretty damn fast when it comes to a new Zelda.
The game looks good, don't get me wrong, but lets don't get ahead of ourselves. With 2 games Nintendo still had the weakest e3 presence this year and by a pretty large margin. I hope they announce something to grab on to some attention for the NX, unless they want it to be a thing of the past before it is even released. Thus far They aren't even a bleep on most gamers radar anymore.

reality is cel shading is heavily underused in big adventure games- it looks gorgeous. Wind Waker still looks great today.
pumped for this.
The only thing I sort of wish the trailer had shown a tinyyyy bit more of would be the characters / Zelda / plot. it just showed how pretty the game was and some world mechanics.
definitely picking up though. I feel like Zelda is the one Nintendo franchise that neverrrrrrrrrrrr comes out poorly
although part of me sort of was hoping for more of a serious Zelda in the vain of of Ocarina of Time aesthetics, this looks rad

The Guardian one... looks like my first Amiibo TBH

Looks almost as good as Wind Waker visually. Seriously them last gen graphics tho.
Does seem super fun though. Can't wait

Maybe it's because I've spent so long romanticising it in my head, or maybe I've just played/seen too many open-world games over the last couple of years, but this trailer made it look almost.. amateurish? I'm not sure that's the right word... Inconsistent, maybe? I don't know, but whatever it is, i'm not chipper about it. Ah well, it's just 1 trailer. I've felt this way about stuff in the past and later become more interested, so i guess i'll just have to wait it out for now. |
i dont get the hype or excitment either...
i mean i played The Witcher 3, and thats how you do an open world game. i played games like Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed 2, Farcry 3 and GTA5. all different takes on open world, and they all feel more alive and exciting than this.
i really dont get it, what makes this so special?
Edit: is there any gameplay? continues gameplay that is. i wanna watch that, maybe it could change my mind a bit.

they said that they are not showing characters or the story, just that small part of the world (not small at all) and puzzle solving. |
I wouldn't be concerned about lack of characters and NPC's, if there's one thing Zelda games ALWAYS have its cute little towns with unique characters. sometimes they may or may not be really interactable, but they are always there.
i.e. in Wind Waker lots of random islands with individual unique people living there. Ocarina of Time with the goofy characters at the farms or lake.
Its obvious Nintendo deliberately did not show like anyyyy of the towns, cities, NPC's. maybe waiting to build up more hype. and, of course, every Zelda game usually has its own epic version of Hyrule Castle / Town so that is something to look forward to seeing
I actually am fascinated about how Nintendo will handle NPC's and quests in this game. obviously in the past any mini 'quests' or 'games' you sort of just figured out how to do and generally they were little games or puzzles. I am curious if they will literally have official mini quests in this given by NPC's. I'm not sure which I would prefer, I sort of do like how it is as in reality I feel like random people would at most just give you little challenges
