I do understand what you mean and perhaps the TS used the wrong word in his question because i don't think this is what he meant. He is clearly talking about completely new games/franchises here, not just a new intellectual property or in this case a spiritual successor with a different name.

Not sure why you're arguing then.

Anyway, personally I think it has enough of it's own identity to not be considered a spiritual successor to Dark Souls. A typical From Software game yes but it doesn't feel enough like Dark Souls to me. I can see why people would consider it a spiritual successor though.

Yes but that makes comparing these games almost impossible doesn't it :-p? Take the newly announced God of War game for example, that has a completely new feel and very different gameplay, so can we count that one in the future as something new? Or is it disqualified because it stil has God of War in the name? What about the new Red Dead game wich will probably be announced soon? Different name and maybe a lot of differences in gameplay, does that one count?

I think your getting confused with how a game plays to what an IP is. Resident Evil 1 is different to Resident Evil 6 but they are the same IP. The new GoW is different but it's still the same IP as the original. So to answer you question of course GoW Red Dead isn't new IPs. Did anybody suggest they were?

For me,no, that goes to ARK for what that game is doing, especially with the dino's and open world crafting and survival along with the mods that can change up the game how I like, I dig a new IP that allows for full mod support like that.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

The designs are really great and the gameplay looks solid. I'm curious to see how the gameflow will play out, as I think that is the largest potential stumbling point. That said, so far it does look really good.

No but as i said before, TS asked if Horizon might be the best new IP of this generation but i'm sure he didn't have something as familiar as Bloodborne in might. He is talking completely new series here and not spin-offs, Bloodborne is just to similair to the soul games to be regarded as something truly new.

*bloodborne

;)

I wouldn't call Bloodborne new IP, it far more spin off of Souls games, even same developer done Bloodborne.

Nah, its actually a new IP. lol

No disrespect but most of your post you talked nonsense. Bloodborne is a new IP, FACT. Spin offs can be new IPs to but what was spun off Dark Souls to make this a spin off. What relation do they have do they have other than being a typical From Software game? Different name, different settings different characters and has a gothic victorian compared to the medieval look of dark Souls.

Should we start calling all of platinum games spin-offs because most of there games have similar gameplay mechanics? Is Uncharted a spin-off to Tomb Raider? Theirs a lot of shooters out there that play very similar to each other, Do they spin off from each other?

Like I said, I can see why some will call it a spiritual successor, but that's the best link you'll find between Bloodborne and Dark Souls.

He said best, not best selling.

EDIT: Lol I'm not sure why you guys keep saying Splatoon, I'm pretty sure it isn't the highest rated new IP this gen.

Oh! Sooooo "Best New Ip This Gen" will be based on reviews / meta ?

Lol yes? That's how it's worked since literally forever. The high rating games are the ones that get "Game of the Year". And those games are typically the ones that get called the best and get into the Best of the Generation list etc. So I'm not sure why you would think otherwise.

"There is only one race, the pathetic begging race"

This game is really amazing !!

Black Flags also has a different setting, different characters and a exotic carribean look compared to the American Civil War look of AC 3. Fact is it has mostly the same gameplay elements as other AC games, just like Bloodborne does with other Souls games(gameplay differences in Black Flag are bigger actually). Again only difference between these two examples is the name. Same can be said for so many others like COD, GTA etc. Everyone knows Bloodborne is just a slightly altered Souls game because Sony wanted an exclusive from From Software and the weren't willing to give up Dark Souls 3 for that. That's why it had to be a different IP and name, but that doesn't make it an entirely new franchise or game. Otherwise the game would probably have been called Blood Souls, because a developer would never pass the oppertunity to use an established brand name. Just look at a game like COD: Infinite Warfare, you can barely even call that a COD game but they are not going to pass on a brand like that.
