Shipped according to GAF.

Shipped according to GAF.
Along it being shipped (according to Gaf), and how quick this game was discounted with B1G1F and 50% off deals, I can see why MS might be disappointed with Halo 5 sales. They were probably hoping the first 3-5 million still throughs would be mostly at full price not discounted.
This is the only way both statements (5million shipped and MS being disappointed with sales) makes sense to me.

Halo 5 didn't get discounts from MS until this year, even in holidays the discounts weren't that big.
Who from Microsoft said that they were disappointed with sales? Got a link to that interview?
It's from that Kotaku story about Lionhead. Apparently an unknown Lionhead employee knows sales for these various games and/or at least MSs expectations.
Man GAF is bitter as fuck about that post LOL.
Great results, if its shipped digital sale aren't included

Here are some of the discounts. There were more in December but it's hard to find them now.

Thats about 1/4 market penetration. Those are comparable to Nintendo levels. It wasn't so bad it seems. It did have alot less buzz though.

The thing is, Halo sales remained remarkably stable from Halo 2 (released in 2004) on towards Halo 4 (released in 2012). The series ran right through the rise of CoD and similar "modern" military-style "twitch" FPSs, yet never lost steam. It wasn't until 343i's mishandling of the series in the form of the MCC's disastrous first few months that we saw the series go into decline. 343i has done a much better job with Halo 5, and hopefully it's enough to have gotten them back in gamers' good graces. If Halo 6 ends up exhibiting a rebound in sales for the series, we can say that Halo 5 was a fluke dragged down by the MCC's multiplayer woes. They may also get more people back into the series by supporting local split-screen and proper offline LAN play. |
Well I remember games like Halo 2-4 and even reach were also given away with bundles, Reach/Halo 4 had a decline on vgchartz mostly because they had a digital copy that doesn't count as a sale on vgchartz. Halo 5 is a different matter the launch bundle came with a digital copy and I don't see that many bundles over here with Halo 5, the popular game store over here has plenty of bundles but not one with Halo 5: http://www.gamemania.be/Default.aspx?tabid=296&select=Hardware&show=1
The game this generation that they bundle heavily is Gears of war, it is basically every week in the top 20 on vgchartz. If they did the same with Halo 5 it probably would be close to the 7-8 million.

I don't necessarily think it deserves these sales just like how Reach didn't deserve the 10m or so sales.
Hope 343 and MS pull their heads together for the next game as the franchise deserves much better.

So are we maybe looking at LTD sales of somewhere between Halo:CE and Halo 2?
