Does playing Mario Maker make you want to get into game design?

IIRC, that was basically Nintendo's goal. They wanted to show people how fun game design could be. Granted, real game design is far more work than play since life doesn't automatically come with a pretty GUI and pre-coded object functionality, but it's not a bad introduction to one of the more basic concepts of game design if you haven't played with the more complex Little Big Planet level editor before.

Playing any amazing game makes me want to get into game design! Sadly now with games being so vast, you cannot do it all. You are either a level designer, animator, coder, character designer... It's not like in the PS1 days where 6 people made Crash Bandicoot!

It did make me a bit interested, but it's not as easy as in mario maker so no .

Not really, Level Editors and Sandbox Modes have been some of my favorite things in certain games to begin with for a long time.

From what Ive heard from software engineers its a ungreatfull job to have.
You work much harder for less pay, your forced to do crunch (hello 16hour workdays).

It has to be a passion type thing, or you dont get into it. Also dont think makeing games is as fun as useing level designers in mario maker, or nintendo wouldnt be able to sell it as a game.

Nah.

I did take a basic game design class a long time ago, and while it was very fun, it pretty much taught me that making a game is definitely a super long process, and I'm not willing to put down so much time into it.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Not really, but I barely played Mario Maker

I played around with Wario Ware DIY for the DS and that was pretty neat but overall, not too interested

No. Maybe children. Designing a game is not like Mario Maker.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

There were three ravens sat on a tree / They were as blacke as they might be / The one of them said to his mate, Where shall we our breakfast take?

Yes and no.

Yes because it can be fun as hell and lets you have a ton of creativity while doing it.

Not because it made me realize that level design is actually way more complex than most people think, even for a relatively simple game as 2D Mario.
