Should Platinum Games stop making smaller licensed games?

The problem isn't with licensed titles at all, it's that they are split up working on multiple projects at the same time that most sum of their parts aren't all together which means less quality is going to come from whatever projects they are all working on. What they should be doing is working on at least 1-2 projects every 2 years if not longer.



Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

The thing is... licensed games almost always suck. It's not a platinum games thing.

Platinum's licensed stuff sucks compared to something like Bayonetta that was in development for years. But how does it compare to other licensed games?

I had such high hopes for Mutants in Manhattan, but it's just another crappy Turtles game. Why can't any developer get it right? I mean, we've had local co-op for HOW LONG NOW? And Platinum just refused to add it. Instead we have some inexcusably stupid AI, both enemies and Turtles alike.

I don't understand. This is the same developer that did Bayonetta, right? Leaves me with little hope for Scalebound, honestly.

With Bayonetta they had a lot of time, they were being funded by Nintendo who viewed the project as important.  They presumably had a decent budget, and didn't have to get Bayonetta out in time for a movie tie in.

I imagine this has to do with the fact that they're one of an extremely small (and shrinking) group of big name independent studios that doesn't have to continuously answer to a publisher. Games like Scalebound and Bayonetta aren't cheap. From their point of view, it's better to work on multiple smaller projects that bring in decent revenue than a couple of big AAA games that could potentially bankrupt the studio should one fail. They probably should reorganize, but I don't think they should drop the licensed projects.

Yeah I definitely think they should reorganize what they their team works on because the more they keep going at projects like this, the sooner they will hurt their image along with general quality of what they produce.

Exactly. I remember from Bayo 2 prior you couldn't say there was a bad game really (Well outside Legend of Korra  which came out a month prior, but it was still a black sheep in a SWARM of amazing titles). There might have been one people didn't enjoy, but they were all solid games. Now they have just as many mediocre to sub par as they do amazing games.... 

*Edit* Basically, remember when the darn near 80 meta scored Wonderful 101 was the worst thing to happen to Platinum Games ever. Now irt's considered one of the good games Platinum has done.
